It should produce similar power to Rich's sc but with more torque and rubbish power delivery. A diff will help but masses of torque delivered 'all of a sudden' will just spin the front wheels and create lots of torque steer. Plus turbo lag is pants if you go for a big turbo.

The good thing about the sc kits is the nice linear power delivery which helps prevent the wheels spinning up, and its nice and driveable.

You'll need similar internals, boost piping etc as for a sc. The same sort of rules apply to tc as sc.

i was looking at either the 260bhp or 300, dont fancy having to rebuild the engine LOL
so would you say there is probably another 2k to be spent on top of that?

i wouldnt feel happy planting my foot down on a boost engine with standard internals, i'd be thinking everytime is this the time the big ends give in

I love turbo torque but have to agree that if put through the front wheels it will easily spin them up. You need RWD or AWD to make the most of it. Lag in my impreza aint to bad though, slipping the clutch helps on gear changes i find as the revs dont drop off. Also, i think sc a 6 is cheaper proven avenue and at low boost you shouldnt need to change the internals. Smile

Do it mate, Superchargers are common as muck Razz

I know that the linear power of a s/c is much better and won't spin up easily and blow gearboxes etc, but nothing beats the feeling of when the boost kicks in, slams you back in your seat like you get with t/c Big grin

Oh and got to love the "woop-tish" of a dump valve LOL

I've never really read up about turbo's, is it as simple as fitting a supercharger or is there more work to be done?

If you use your car day to day, then yes s/c is definately the way forward.

Looking more at supercharging then, wont be for a long time anyway, insurance is 4.5k on low boost so f*ck that! LOL

I'm 23 and with Adrian Flux, but I am soon to be fitting throttle bodies and they said it won't affect my premium at all, I can go to 250bhp before it will change Cool

Good mapping and sensible turbo selection for the win
Big grin

Could we just start a list of new cars with turbos fitted that don't eat gearboxes, spit diffs and torque steer hedge to hedge ... Whistle

Find a decent small twinscroll turbo, get it mapped properly with a decent manifold and don't go too over the top with the power and it'd be ok.

Been seriously thinking about creating a low boost, low lag simple conversion to say 200, 220 max using a small turbo and small intercooler to reduce lag. Get it mapped by Wayne on the standard ecu. I'd try to get the torque up to say 200lbft as you wouldn't have the torque steer / gearbox issues.

Just a thought anyway....Smile

Thing is peak torque is just a figure, what happens when you go for 100lb/ft to 200lb/ft in half a second: the wheels spin. I know you can map around these things, but seems like the wrong solution.

All the components are designed to take the power and torque with millions of pounds worth of testing whereas in the 6 theyre aren't designed for it. Since binka is the only member on here whos had a powerful turbo GTi-6 probably best to speak to him. Last I heard, he was disappointed in the car, given the amount of money he spent on it.

Well I phoned them and had an in-depth conversation with them when I asked about taking my 6 up to 380bhp I asked all the questions on the internals and gear box and the dude on the phone said one thousand pound sir and we can make you an indestructible gear box Smile

you could'nt make a gearbox indestructible for 10k never mind 1k .

as for the turbo kits its alot more drivable than most of you seem to think but alot of it would depend on peoples driving style

as for doing shaft and boxes etc am on the 2nd set of shafts and 1st gearbox since i built my first 230bhp 8v turbo engine 2 years ago and now on the 380bhp turbo 16v engine which its been with for approx 8 months
