Has that sump taken a knock?

Looks nice and clean in the engine bay. I would like to just pull mine out and freshen up.

not 100% what happened.

it's definately not the cause of a faulty bottom end. it may have happened when engine was removed

but fitting newer and better condition sump tomorrow Thumbs up

woke up to this Angry

luckily, i'd managed to do what i needed over the last couple of days Big grin

i'd fitted the newer sump, fitted o/e oil filter and filled engine with oil

connected a few more plugs, fitted radiator and cowl, and filled with coolant , then bled system

fitted battery, and cranked over. no weird noises, just wouldn't start

i'm such a *anker !

i have now learnt why the car won't start Doh

when i bought the car, the key fob was knackered. so i got hold of a decent fob and just swapped over the key part, and the button internals and threw the old fob away

unknown to me there was also a transponder chip in the original fob aswell Doh so after a lot of questions and some very helpful replies, (thanks guys) i have learnt that an unlocked ecu is the answer

so once i get an ecu, it should only be a case of connecting up and getting the car running

only thing then is, re-fit the headlights and front bumper, fill the gearbox with oil and bleed the o/s/f brake caliper

job done Thumbs up (i hope)

with thanks to rich-w (another person on my list of good sellers Thumbs up ), the unlocked ecu has got my car running Big grin

took the car out for a drive, and all was well Big grin

no tapping Big grin temp reached about 80deg. no leaks, but a little hesitant when accelerating. (no induction fitted at mo)

my plan is that once i tax it, i'll take the car to skip brown for a tune.

then i'd like to lower the car about 40mm (need decent struts and springs first), i'll lower the rear myself, but will do a re-build on the beam while i'm at it.

apart from lowering it, and induction kit, they're the only modifications i plan on doing, as i like originality in my cars

here's some pics

cheers

bad news i'm afraid Cry i'm proper gutted Tired

the car starts perfect, and there is no tapping, so at least the head is good Big grin

but when revved or under load the engine knocks Sad

as said, i'm gutted. think it might need new big end bearings.

unlucky for me, i'm back in work tomorrow and have to use the car for the next 4 days. but luckily, i only work 4 miles away

so i have to wait till monday to whip the sump off for closer inspection

just hoping Clapping a new set of shells is all i'll need

Sad

That's an arse mate.

Sorry I missed your call earlier - I can't really answer when i'm in the office at work.

It's incredibly unlikely you will get away with doing just the shells - from experience you are likely to want a crank or get it out and get it polished at least Sad

luckily i kept the old engine, so i might get the bottom end rebuilt on that, then just swap the head over.

at least if i do that, i'll know that if i decide i go down the s/c route, it should be a good engine to convert Clapping

it's a shame to give up on it, as it is quite a nice car to drive

i've been in touch with someone today about building a new short block for me, and hope it will only cost me about

well here's an update folks.

had to bin the gti6, problems with engines and dvla

so got my hands on this gti6 wannabe Big grin

this one is for keeps

2000 w-reg 2.0 16v non sunroof 306 xsi and in 10 times better condition than the gti 6

unfortuneatly, previous owner had the cyclones pinched, but lucky i had a spare set

that's better Wink

lucky i had a spare donor car

already changed the oil, and fitted genuine filters. also fitted new discs and pads to the rear

i'll be fitting the gti 6 interior aswell Big grin

in time i'll lower it slightly, and get some spare cyclones i've got re-furbished

bye bye gti

the bonnet on it, is what i took off my xsi, as on the n/s/f edge had blistered and was a slightly different shade
