not 100% what happened. it's definately not the cause of a faulty bottom end. it may have happened when engine was removed but fitting newer and better condition sump tomorrow ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE. woke up to this luckily, i'd managed to do what i needed over the last couple of days i'd fitted the newer sump, fitted o/e oil filter and filled engine with oil connected a few more plugs, fitted radiator and cowl, and filled with coolant , then bled system fitted battery, and cranked over. no weird noises, just wouldn't start i'm such a *anker ! i have now learnt why the car won't start when i bought the car, the key fob was knackered. so i got hold of a decent fob and just swapped over the key part, and the button internals and threw the old fob away unknown to me there was also a transponder chip in the original fob aswell so after a lot of questions and some very helpful replies, (thanks guys) i have learnt that an unlocked ecu is the answer so once i get an ecu, it should only be a case of connecting up and getting the car running only thing then is, re-fit the headlights and front bumper, fill the gearbox with oil and bleed the o/s/f brake caliper job done (i hope) ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE. with thanks to rich-w (another person on my list of good sellers ), the unlocked ecu has got my car running took the car out for a drive, and all was well no tapping temp reached about 80deg. no leaks, but a little hesitant when accelerating. (no induction fitted at mo) my plan is that once i tax it, i'll take the car to skip brown for a tune. then i'd like to lower the car about 40mm (need decent struts and springs first), i'll lower the rear myself, but will do a re-build on the beam while i'm at it. apart from lowering it, and induction kit, they're the only modifications i plan on doing, as i like originality in my cars here's some pics cheers ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE. bad news i'm afraid i'm proper gutted the car starts perfect, and there is no tapping, so at least the head is good but when revved or under load the engine knocks as said, i'm gutted. think it might need new big end bearings. unlucky for me, i'm back in work tomorrow and have to use the car for the next 4 days. but luckily, i only work 4 miles away so i have to wait till monday to whip the sump off for closer inspection just hoping a new set of shells is all i'll need ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE. That's an arse mate.Sorry I missed your call earlier - I can't really answer when i'm in the office at work. It's incredibly unlikely you will get away with doing just the shells - from experience you are likely to want a crank or get it out and get it polished at least ________________________________________ Contact Details:rich@lynxpowerengineering.co.uk 07732 822546 |

luckily i kept the old engine, so i might get the bottom end rebuilt on that, then just swap the head over. at least if i do that, i'll know that if i decide i go down the s/c route, it should be a good engine to convert ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE. well here's an update folks. had to bin the gti6, problems with engines and dvla so got my hands on this gti6 wannabe this one is for keeps 2000 w-reg 2.0 16v non sunroof 306 xsi and in 10 times better condition than the gti 6 unfortuneatly, previous owner had the cyclones pinched, but lucky i had a spare set that's better lucky i had a spare donor car already changed the oil, and fitted genuine filters. also fitted new discs and pads to the rear i'll be fitting the gti 6 interior aswell in time i'll lower it slightly, and get some spare cyclones i've got re-furbished bye bye gti ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE.
