Ready for next year racing, i bought a Sprinter LWB, which has been in the caterham grads club for at least the last 4 years. It already had ramps, winch and side awning, so i pretty good start.

The way the ramps were designed ment that the way the caterham went in the back the space was unusable for anything other than having a caterham in the back. Not what i was after, as i intend to live in the van aswell over race weekends.

So, i've started to convert the inside to suit me more. The main things being able to create seating for multiple people, a bed, a "dirty area" for oils petrol etc, and a clean area for bedding clothes etc. I started off by binning off the bulkhead, to create a little more space and set about trying to find some captain seats that would swivel round into the "living" space. I couldn't find anything that looked ok for anything less than

I've only brieftly put the car back in to double check all my measurements since doing the work today, but it's soo full of crap and all the spare wood at the moment, i can't put it all the way in just yet. Will sling it in later in the week and take a pic for you.

I might still need to change one ramp a little more, as i've had to cut a chunk out of the left one to clear the exhaust. At the moment it fits, but only just, and as it won't make a great deal of difference, i'll make the notch in it longer to be on the safe side.

that is quality, though I do have some reservations, the sprinters aren't the most sure footed vans, especially in any kind of wind!

saying that though, not actually seen many fall over, and they are nice and quick, some of them, watch for dicky injectors and injector seals, seized calipers, front suspension sagging, and corrosion.

have you ever driven one much?

I put 100K on one in a year and they are decent vans, with the mileage this one will be doing its fine, pretty good in wind for their size but do like to powerslide in the wet and once they start going theres a lot of length there to keep the momentum up LOL

yes thanks, the mark 5 transit p*ssed on the Sprinter in terms of stability and roadholding, just a shame they had no more than 76 ps and rotted away for fun Laugh my ass off

shame the transits then fail for performance, economy and breakdowns, probably feel more stable as you're going slower and the fact they are generally smaller, I've been through most of the UK and Ireland in a LWB sprinter and it never felt bad in wind.

looks good, never ran a sprinter myself but a few mates have them and had no probs i dont think. I have a jumbo transit 135T350 rally service van. Its an absolute stunning van, pulls like a train, relaible, lovely to drive. Its quite rare most are 125ps or lower but this is a 135 6 speed and it makes all the difference. Are you going to be towing with the sprinter?

Nice bit of work, in the middle of doing something similar ourselves at the minute, but it's taken 5 weeks work already and still counting!

Well with less than 2 weeks before the first race at Pembrey i've been beavering away with the van.

Got various bits completed now, it will need quite a lot of little bits doing, along with making the roof panels, then once i've used it a couple of times and am happy with it i'll be lining all the walls and ceiling with faux leather and putting a lino floor in.

So this is it in transport mode, with everything folded up to the sides and seats facing forward:

Storage area above the car when it's loaded, these all fold back up to the rear bulkhead:

Then with everything folded back down in "living mode"

Futon mattress in:

Passenger seat facing backwards:

I also built a cupboard to sit behind the drivers seat, the board holding the fridge in will be changed at some point, but it was an off cut that fitted for the time being:

Range Rover seats fitted:

Control panel for most of the electrics, I still need to label up most the switches:

And the secondary panel for TV / Freeview / Playstation (Still to be installed)

Cracking effort mate, looks great, once you have trimmed it up and put the lino in will look even better.
