Castrol, Mobil, Total - Most will be fine based on a change interval of less than 10k I choose to change mine every 6/8k but that's a personal preference. ________________________________________ Turbocharged Honda Integra Type R DC2 |

I'm a big fan of changing oil more often to rid the impurities, its not just mileage but time that breaks it down with condensation being the main problem. The cost of oil is so little its worth doing regularly. ________________________________________ Previous Peugeot - 2000(w)GTI-6, Me old China, Supercharged with working aircon! |

Agreed - some of his advice may have been biased (commercially) but I've never heard him say anything that was wrong from a technical standpoint.________________________________________ Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch....Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. Semi synth changed every 6k or 6 months is dead cheap and the engine will run and run. However if you do a lot of track work, I would go for a motorsport oil which keeps temps low and offers better protection. |

Halfords do some fully synthetic motorsport oil, 5w 50 it is, if you have a mate with a trade card it's about 25 quid, can't remember exactly on the price but it's something like that.I've used and it was fine, my brother's used it in his mr2 turbo, and my mate has used it in his mk1 mr2 and impreza, and it seems fine, and as I said, not that expensive on trade. ________________________________________ '99 306 Meridian TD with Bosch fuel pump - Cheap veg oil motoring'99 Xantia Activa turbo - not cheap veg oil motoring Goes around corners well though |

Personally i always used 10w 40 semi and never had an issue at 60K it used half a litre of oil between 9k oil changes which to me says the engine was in good nick. Oil is one of those things that people can spend a lot of money on from the likes of oilman but the reality is service it regularly with a decent quality oil and it will run and run. |

you want to try asking a "what oil" question on an m3 owners club, that is hilarious and everyone immediately starts arguing over oil because every single person uses a different one. i pop along and say i dont use oil whatsoever and merely pour coke and sugar in there and they say i'll damage my engine etc.. ________________________________________ 306 rallye reproduction decals (full sets/individual decals) | 306 b-pillar textured vinyl weatherstrips306 slam panel esso stickers | 306 yellow / orange / pension fund red side door badges gti6 inlet manifold badges | 306 rear boot badges (p2/p3) winner of Extraction of toys from prams with outstanding vigour award 2009 [source: gti6 owners club] |

NB - the 1109T0 filters correspond to the longer service intervals that the 306 got revised to later on.. ________________________________________ Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch....Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. On MTorque (was BM3W) we had endless discussions on oil that ran and ran but the long and short was use the Castrol stuff BMW recommends, generally a manufacturer designs and tests an engine around a particular brand of oil but by rights any brand to the same spec should work. We did find the M5 would consume far more of one brand than another, very strange but when you are dealing with engines that cost ________________________________________ Previous Peugeot - 2000(w)GTI-6, Me old China, Supercharged with working aircon! |

you dont need a 10w60 for a standard gti 6, its far to thick at normal operating temperature. Stick with 5w-40 or 10w-40 and change it every 6k________________________________________ Owner of a Nile Phase 2 GTI-6 & Impreza WRX . |

i think he meant for me, for my m3yes, 10w60 is the castrol tws stuff so i guess it'd do, however only certain ones have a certain element that the M ones are approved for, funnily enough it's been rebranded as 'edge' not tws anymore, i believe ________________________________________ 306 rallye reproduction decals (full sets/individual decals) | 306 b-pillar textured vinyl weatherstrips306 slam panel esso stickers | 306 yellow / orange / pension fund red side door badges gti6 inlet manifold badges | 306 rear boot badges (p2/p3) winner of Extraction of toys from prams with outstanding vigour award 2009 [source: gti6 owners club] |
