Black high temp paint would make it look nice...
Heat wrap wise a role should do it ,I think thats all I used.Just make sure you use the right clips to hold the ends and use the spray paint stuff that goes with the wrap as well as it will last longer then - still pretty fragile though.Sad

A roll will do it?
What size roll? Width and length as they are all different.
Id use thermotec gen 2 in the 2inch wide, not sure how much you would need.
Make sure you apply it wet, use gloves and stainless steel clips.
And use the silicone sealant over it.

You could get it ceramic coated which does the same thing though its not cheap.
Demon tweeks do a home apply version not sure how good it is though.

where do you get the thermotec gen 2 hear wrap from? i was looking on ebay and found:
EXHAUST MANIFOLD FIBREGLASS HEAT WRAP TAPE 1" x 5 METRE made by LMA motorsports

do you get the silicone sealent with the heat wrap as one package when you buy it?

Black high temp paint may make it look nice but the only thing is no one can see the manifold on a gti6, also what would black heat paint actualy do?
what would be better? black heat paint or heat wrap?

Should find it on ebay.
If not raldes, merlin or demon tweeks
you wont get the sealer or the securing things with it.
5m may just do one header.

I found the stainless zip- tie things were crap and ended up using stainless lockWire, it was much cheaper and is still going strong after 30k.

Arent there meant to be problems with wrapping mild steel? With regards to water getting in and them cracking?

More to the point, are there any benefits of actually wrapping the manifold?

P.S. The manifold looks good painted but I can't imagine it'll last long...

no i dont think the paint will last long either LOL thats why i want to wrap it, i have already had my manifold heat shield set on fire and heat wrap is suppose to reduce heat in the engine bay

Reduces heat in the engine bay, also keeps the exhaust warmer, and therefore the air inside it alot 'thinner' (less dense) meaning it can escape quicker. I've heard of rally cars having the whole exhaust wrapped.

Its all about getting the air in and out as quick as possible aswell as cold dense air going in, and hot, thin air out!

Thats how I understand it anyhow

I can vouch for the reduction in local heat with a 6 manifold on a cabrio it does matter! There must be a theoretical risk of corrosion but only if you get the manifold wet and leave it wet. I cant see how this is likely unless you go through a flood and immediately decide to turn off and leave the car to cool down immediately. If you run the engine for any length of time it would dry out. if the flood has stopped the car you may have greater problems anyway. I suspect this is a risk for open engine designs stored outdoors.
