Hi there all,

I'm Andy, I run Datashift IT Ltd and I make bespoke ECU's for various cars. The main theme is that they are custom made and packaged to be 100% plug and play on the car, whilst future proofing your car against further modifications.

For example, whilst I will operate the stock idle valve, use all the stock sensors, MAP, IAT, CLT, TPS and so on, there is also a 2.5bar MAP sensor onboard for if you'd like to turbo your car, and it'll also support Throttle Body conversions, and superchargers.

I've successfully made and sold in the Saxo community, and I have many satisfied testimonials now, I've mapped a turbo saxo, and a couple with Throttle Body conversions, but mainly it's the uprated camshafts that prompt people to need management.

Anyway - since you 306 GTi boys have exactly the same ECU plug as the Saxo, to make the ECU run your cars is a little rewire, the addition of a 2nd VR input circuit, and sorting out your COP arrangement.

My ECU also works out the box with the Innovate LC-1 wideband controller, but can also be calibrted to work with any other wideband.

I can add (based on interest) launch/flatshift, closed-loop boost control, that sort of stuff!

So - anyone interested? If so, I'll need a volunteer to be a donkey, preferrably in the Southampton/Hampshire area, who will have an ECU put on their car and mapped up as a test/demonstrator. Obviously you will be paid petrol, plied with tea, and bacon sandwiches and will receive an enormous discount on one of the first units.

Also, you'll be able to write back to the group whether you think my product and I are any good!!

Here are some pictures of the Saxo unit, obviously the 306 one will look very similar!!!

Does the Saxo use the Magneti Marelli 1AP ECU of the GTi-6?

Yeah I think it does, but the important thing is the plug which I believe is identical Smile

Hi craig - nice to talk again mate Smile

Miles - hi there, ringwood is just down the road! I am just off the M271 junction of the M27 so no distance for you Smile

Chris - yes, my ECU will plug in. Installation takes oh, maybe 60seconds. Then plug laptop in, go mapping!

No, well my understanding is that KMS requires an adapter loom which plugs in between the ECU and the car loom, and the KMS ECU is a 'generic standalone' which is configured to run whichever car it's put on.

My ECU does not have any adapter loom, the ECU contains the Motronic 55-pin plug which just plugs to the car, therefore the costs are significantly cheaper - check out the picture links in my first post Smile

My ECU currently runs at

sorry, it was VEMS Doh yours is a hell of a lot cheaper I must say especially if each unit is mapped to suit, the VEMS ones come with a base map for each engine I believe.

One question I have on here which is always the killer and having worked in the Electronics industry before

What Support, Warranty and Back up do you provide ?

Ah yeah - I know the VEMS unit. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe that inside their ECU they use a generic board but run wires to the plug. I don't think the plug connects directly onto the PCB (please correct me if anyone knows different!).

As for warranty - I offer a no quibbles hardware warranty, if your unit fails through no fault of the customer, simply return it and I will either repair the problem or just replace the board.

Usually I can send a replacement ECU with *your* map on it in the post so you're not without an ECU during the repair process.

Not that this has ever happened!! I did have an ECU back last week as part of the free hardware upgrade and turned it round in a day.

I now run closed loop idle control, so you just enter the target RPM for a number of coolant temperatures and the ECU alters the idle valve automatically, this required a little mod on some of the older ECU's out there.

The ECU on my Saxo has been running over a year, and easily 20,000 miles now without drama, and none of the Saxo customers have had hardware problems, or a failure!

My background is 10 years in the IT industry, and as a hobbyist tuner I've tuned over 40 cars of my own, and one day I realised that the Engine Management industry was making a black art out of something that should be straight forward.

It appeared to me that the ECU was the main stumbling block people had to overcome on their way up the tuning tree. By the time you're at cams you need management, forget turbo's and 'chargers!

Established management can cost over

Will you also be selling theses on a supply only basis, ie without mapping?
Will other rolling roads/mappers be happy to map them or will they turn you away like many seem to do with the megasquirt set-up? Cheers al

When I say I do the mapping for free, I really mean that! There is no difference in cost to supply only or mapped.

I am in the process of getting various reputable mappers round the country onboard and happy to map them up, obviously most of them have their favourites, I just need to make sure mine is one of them Smile

Mike at mikeanics has mapped up one of my Saxo units before, he's in Cheshire... he's a nice bloke! No frills mapping - he normally works on rally cars Smile

I don't suppose you offer a similar product for motronic 4.1/1.3 ECU plugs do you? I know the 52 pin 3 row 1.3 is common on a lot of cars, but if you offered something that fit these plugs you'd be very popular on the 205 forums, and I'd definitely put my name down.
