i think phil said that even if i was a competent welder i'd have still needed some hydraulic pipe benders and a set of 3-point rollers to complete the job!atleast it'll be a lot stronger in the cabin area now than a lot of things plus have added a roof bar and gussets ________________________________________ 306 rallye reproduction decals (full sets/individual decals) | 306 b-pillar textured vinyl weatherstrips306 slam panel esso stickers | 306 yellow / orange / pension fund red side door badges gti6 inlet manifold badges | 306 rear boot badges (p2/p3) winner of Extraction of toys from prams with outstanding vigour award 2009 [source: gti6 owners club] |

Tube rollers, 3 of them in a triangle formation, the two rollers go on one side of the tube, the lone one goes on the other. The clever bit is that the midle roller is pressed into the tube via a ram or screw an as the tube is fed through the rollers it gets bent. Lets you do long arcs instead of bends - so you can roll a tube that follows the windscreen top and bottom perfectly for example. You'd get away without 'em, we just used them to put a tiny little bit of roll on the dash bar to get it fitting spot on, and make sure it fires the dash away from you in a big shunt. I wouldn't fit another one though, even if they sort the hoop issues, there were other niggles. For me, it'd be faster just to make one from scratch, rather than keep having to fettle theirs together until it fits. Be fine for someone installing at home though, it just took more time than usual, but I'm sticking to fitting SD cages! Least Jim's welding should be the best of the lot! ________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. No pressure Unfortunately my juob involves more talking about welding than ACTUAL welding so we'll see how well it goes in practice. ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. I expect it to be perfection! We can get good, strong welds with good penetration every time, but making it pretty is an artists work with a nice TIG setup (hence the email about the new TIG order!). So it better be pretty or we might stick with that little MIG ________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. Yeah, I'm not worrieed about the strength side of things either, I know my welds are fine in that respect. I havent decided on a process yet tho, MIG is deffinitely faster but TIG does look the best, Hmmm________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. MIG the tube joints, TIG the floorpan and gusset plates.Hope Rikky doesn't mind me putting these up, might be giving away trade secrets, look at the lightweight invisible bonnet! Here's how I spent my Friday night, 5pm, thinking about a nice, cold pint and a night out, start work: Oh dear, 11pm, chances of cold pint receding faster than hairline, still tweaking tubes: 2am Saturday morning, can't remember what that 'pint' thing was, but last bit of welding, woo! Tow car outside up to little workshop, pack tools up, fall asleep in chair in corner of workshop... Ooh look, the moon: ________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. If I fire up a one of our synergic pulse migs I can probably put in a double pulse programme that will give me the overlapping bead effect you get with tig anyway, best of both worlds. If I get the settings right that is...________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. I sell new and used welding equipment in the Hampshire area. Not got a lot to practise on is the problem, and to cheer you up, all the tubes are different thicknesses, especially in the cross in the back, for no apparent reason Stop replying before I've finished editing the old post ________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. The things we do for money, you should have seen the look on peoples faces when I walked into my local Indian to pick up my tea after that polishing job on friday, they were all staring at me with their mouths open. Grinding dust is just as much fun, or that lovely bit of weld spatter as you fire the MIG up when it's not quite set perfectly, which promptly finds the only hole in your clothing and rattles down your sleeve to burn a hole in your elbow... edit: 1mm in the little MIG, 1.2mm in the bigger 'un ________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments.
