Hi

i recently got hold a of a kit from a fello forum member. Its come along pretty well so far so i thought maybe a few of you might be interested in doing a similar thing.

the kit included modified fiat brembo caliper with mounts for the six.

here a few photos of the kit be for the refurb.




the kit was in a bit of a state as you can see.
both of the calipers had been stripped pretty well but still had a lot of work needed to b ring um back to life

next stage was to paint them.

i enquired about sending them off for a refurb but its fooking expensive so out came the spray can...

i used a bright red metal protect paint after removing all the rest of the old excess paint and dirt... masked off all the required areas..

...and gave it a spray...

think they came out pretty good...




not a bad finish at all

then i got hold of some new stainless pistons and replaced all the seals...

the pistons used in the brembo caliper from the fiat were 38mm & 42mm.. the same as those in the 406 brembo caliper.

i needed 4 of each size, 8 total costing about

and after ordering new ds2500 pads, discs, braided lines (off mrswampy!!!) its come together pretty well...







the lines are top quality, i'd recomend them..! Thumbs up

this afternoon i did a mock-up of the kit fitted to the car and came across some serious clearance issues.

...there not enough clearance between the caliper and the alloy with the 26mm spacers i currently use so i'm getting phillipm to knock me up some 30mm hubcentric spacers. which should do the trick Thumbs up

although, new spacers means new extended wheel studs so i've ordered some 60mm thread instead of the 45mm i use atm.

the other clearance issue is the wishbone.

the bottom of the aluminium caliper mount catches on the wishbone meaning i may have to get new mounts all together... which is shit....but, i'm not sure on that tho so we'll have to see.

anyways, this is what they should look like when (if) i finally get round to fitting them...enjoy.

Looks like there's some could be trimmed off the mounts though?

yes, you would have thought so but at full lock, the wishbone comes into contact with the bottom of the mount, directly over the hole which the head of the bolt sits when the caliper is attached. so when the calipers is in place, there is next to no clearance as you have to take into account the bolt head.

so trimming off the mount would mean only one bolt holding the caliper...!

not wat i want really.

well without the bolt it would be fine, but obviously thats no good.

i asked a guy at my local cnc milling place in town today about sinking the bolt into the mount so the head of the sits flush but apparently that would weaken it too much.

Yes the caliper sits further down... but the mount shouldnt foul the wishboneNo

Similar kit to mine.. but the mount does look a little different...

Morning chaps, it appears im the shoddy salesman that passed these on to Tom Doh

I had them trial fitted to the Rallye a while back but never checked/noticed any mount/wishbone clearance issues No The wheels were only straight when fitted and i never had them running on the car No Doh

I originally got the kit from a forum member who actually had them running on his 306 so bar the obvious need for spacers i was under the impression the kit fitted fine Yes

I cant remember the chaps forum name but his real name was Charles Rothon, anyone know if he is still about as he could have some useful advice Yes

Looks like there are some good suggestions how to combat the issue so far Smile If you could post some pics Tom of where the mount is catching it would be useful to see, there may be other ways around the problem Thumbs up

yes, those are the chaps.

i've had them the last 3 times i've changed my discs and they are pretty good...

saying that, never tried the 305mm but cant imagine they're much different.

never warped, never had any problems at all with them.. they're quick with deliverey also.

they do rust if you dont paint them but thats a small price to pay... bit of hammerite spray and its sorted.
