hi, reacently bought a 306 gti-6, everything about the car is good except for the fact that it overheats quickly, only one radiator fan ever comes on and only after the tempereture passes 110, then it goes back down to 110 and the fan turns off, then overheats again and so on... shouldent the fan come on at 80 or something? and i think i spoted 3 fans there, why is only one coming on? also noticed that the coolent is brownish color, the guy i bought it from says it could be from rust as the car has been standing for a while. any ideas? thanks |

Does the other fan work if you put a 12 volt supply on it? And if I were you I would flush that old coolant out and refill it with fresh coolant.________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. turn car on, unplug the brown sensor on the thermostat housing and both fans should kick in instantly. then report back ________________________________________ Team Ducati 7482003 Subaru Impreza STi |

If you unplug that brown swithch both fans should kick in on full speed.Yes it's ok to leave it unplugged, but obviously its not a proper solution. ________________________________________ Team Ducati 7482003 Subaru Impreza STi |

It means that the right fan is probably buggered. Easiest solution is buy a second hand replacement twin fan setup ________________________________________ Team Ducati 7482003 Subaru Impreza STi |

I thought one of the fans was for the air con, and the other for cooling the engine? Hence being able to wire up both fans for overheating if your air-can isn't going to be fixed any time soon.....Not that this really helps you, just an observation. ________________________________________ R.I.P Pete Sims aka PeteGti6/PlatinumSix |

Every 6 i've known goes slightly above 90 when hot weather is combined with hardcore traffic - even when both fans are working And yes silver 6 only one fan is needed, the rallye only come with one as standard ________________________________________ Team Ducati 7482003 Subaru Impreza STi |

willygti wrote: Its if your temp is high when your driving about you need to start worrying Seems fine when driving about, it was when I went into a multi-storey car park and I heard the noise of fans that I realised it was 110. Probabily nothing to worry about I'll keep an eye on it. Cheers Willy ________________________________________ Black 306 GTi-6 175.8BHP SCA Norwich ProjectTopaz Blue 205 CTI |

Just been and tested mine, its exactly the same as iisdaone's problem.Gets to anything over 110, left fan kicks in (as you look at the front of the car), drops to 110, and the fan cuts out. The right hand fan does nothing. I assume this one is supposed to come on earlier? i.e. its f**ked I unplugged the brown plug and just the left fan comes on. ________________________________________ Black 306 GTi-6 175.8BHP SCA Norwich ProjectTopaz Blue 205 CTI |

okay i have a p1 which also only has 1 fan. whilst stationary in trffic mine gets upto 100ish then the fan kicks in. the fans used to be always on everytime i drove her. since fittin PTFE inlet gasket and new starter motor last week they dont seem to be on anywhere as near as before which is weird as that shouldnt make a difference. think im going to change to the twin fans and bridge the wires so when they do come on it gives the rad a real good blast.i have changed coolant thermostat. would changing the rad stat help too? any ideas on the temp and fans used to been on all the time. cheers ben ________________________________________ 1997 P1 Gti 6 Charged |

Mine is strange. It's behaving itself now, but from time to time (not too often), it will go to go 107 Degrees, then the high speed will kick in. But normally it will sit at 75 when driving about then go to 90-97 degrees when in town.I guess either the CTS, or the relays are at fault? As far as I can tell, both fans work. ________________________________________ Ex Owner of 2000 Phase 3 306 GTi 6 China Blue - You shall be missed1974 Triumph Stag 1989 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6 2003 Alfa Romeo 147 JTD Lusso 2005 Mondeo Ghia X 3.0 Estate LPG |

The reason why my 2nd fan didn't come on is because its buggered. Haven't changed it yet either.________________________________________ Black 306 GTi-6 175.8BHP SCA Norwich ProjectTopaz Blue 205 CTI |

I've got one fan working, the passenger side one is dead. I'm guessing this is why its going very high temp before the second one kicks in? Can you replace one or are they both attached together and not seperable? |
