As it stood when I bought it, the only modifications on the car were the usual K n N and a different exaust with de-cat, along with a pair of black diamond drilled disks up front.
Not a mark on the bodywork, and just a small scuff on the front bumper that had been touched up!
And thats how it stayed for just over a year, no other work needed on the car, apart from the usual basic servicing.
And then i caught a rather serious illness in November 2007....
The trackday bug!
After meeting many of the trackheads from the forum and having one of the most enjoyable experiances of my life at Oulton Park I would be addicted henceforth!
By my 2nd trackday at Cadwell Park I had upgraded the brake lines to braided steel ones, but was still running on P6000's and whatever pads I bought the car on.
By Snetterton (3rd trackday) I had now bought a 2nd set of cyclones wrapped in Dunlop D01J tyres and boy did they make a difference. Still on the original set of pads here.
I had also fitted a PTFE manifold gasket at some point by this time, although I cant remember when exactly. Didn't really notice much difference when I changed it tbh, but the intake manifold did remain slightly cooler to the touch and a cooler inlet temp can only be better!
4th trackday at Anglesey in July last year, my pads finally got replaced with a set of Ferrodo DS3000's (and not before time, as I discovered I was down to the last 0.4 mm of old pad on arrival at the track)
It was here that I got my first on-board experiance of the supercharged revolution that has now taken over the forum, snagging a passenger ride in Rich_W's 6 in exchange for taking some lap footage. A fair trade methinks!
Rich's beast in action
After Anglesey I decided it was time for my next purchase, uprated suspension. The car was good in the corners already, dont get me wrong, most things into submission, but i wanted more!
After speaking to several people on the forum, I opted for the favoured Bilstein sports dampers combined with Eibach springs.
This lowered the font of the car 30mm, and stiffened up the handing no end. This was done at the same time as replacing the droplinks, ball joints, TRE's, top mount bearings and fitting a set of Rich_W's roller bearing wishbone bushes.
The front end was all completed by myself, but I had another trackday approaching very quickly, so off I headed for the weekend, with my rear dampers in my boot. The dampers were fitted to the car the evening before the trackday, outside Kev's house, eventually finishing in the dark with only the light of a torch to guide us!
The next day came, and at about 5AM on a dull, November morning a small convoy of 6's and the odd 106 and 205 on trailors headed off to Cadwell. I was definatly attending the best circuit to try out my new setup
The suspension completly transformed the car, and it beginning to feel more track focused finally.
The day also bought with it another toy for the car, a delivery in person from Rich_W.
Yes, you have guessed it, I was joining the supercharged club.
I bought the kit knowing that I wouldn't be able to fit it for a year or so because I couldn't afford the rest of the bits but at the time no one knew if another batch would ever be made.
Plus I wanted to gain more of a speed advantage by losing weight from the car before charging it too.
I had already installed 1 bucket seat in the car too for Cadwell, but the next change to the car would be to install the roll cage I had bought, along with the other bucket seat and harnesses I had bought. This was carried out over the next few months (after eventually talking the other half into letting me rip out the interior of our only car)
As you can see, the pictures were taken before the install was completly finished, but they pretty much resemble the state the car was in by the end of the evening I finished bolting down the cage for the last time after installing it and removing it several times in the trial fitments.
And not before time too, as I would be heading off to Cadwell again the next evening as soon as I got home from work...
Or so I thought.
I finished work for the evening, headed back home in my van and just had to pop into the yard to hand some paperwork in and that was me done. While I was at the yard I got a phonecall from my other half bringing the bad news. We shot off to the scene of the accident to find this:
Oh the difference 24 hours make heh!
I suppose atleast it looks shiney in those pics still.
And there endeth my project thread I guess, until the next 6, where I can start all over again and perhaps get the 'charger installed on the next one!
So if someone happens to see my 6 lurking about any scrapyards anywhere then let me know as there are still some of my bits on the car
