Hi, sorry for the long gap to an update. Last few months have been well busy!Managed to keep my fingers out of where they shouldn't be and got most of the list done before the first trackday and race weekend Did a track day at Combe on the Friday before my first race 2 days later which went well, was great to be back out on track again after 9 months since the last. Engine performed really well, nice and grunty. But had a few problems setting the suspension up. First session I spent very sideways a lot, the back end was really loose so had a bit of opposite lock through Quarry, Esses, Old paddock and Camp! Came in from that one and put some harder front springs on and clicked the rear dampers up a bit to try and stop the bouncing and rolling. Just as I was going out for my next session it absolutely hammered down, all was going ok and the tweeks had definately helped but about 4 laps in the back end stepped out going round folly (100mph ish!) - which turned in to going sideways - then backwards. Never had a go at reversing that quick before! lol. Managed to scrub some speed off and keep it on the tarmac and then spun it back round. That flicked the windscreen wiper up though so couldn't see anything and had to come in. Did a bit more work on the rear and went out for a couple more, still very tail happy but ran out of time and bits to try. So still needs more testing after Monday's race to try a few different setups. Anyway, I recorded the last 2 sessions (unfortunately didn't have the camera in for the exciting ones). Here they are, not too quick laps though as can get a lot more from the brakes when I get more used to them and couldn't carry much speed through the quicker corners. Came in early on the second vid as I was running out of fuel as you can see from the starvation in the corners. Vid one - Here Vid two - Here We put the big problem of it switching ends down to the fact it might have been jacking down on to the bump stops in the longer corners so cut them down a bit before the race and just tried to take it steady. Race day went by without any problems and stayed in one piece. Qualified 17th and finished 17th. Was only doing 26's on the trackday and 25's on race day. Nowhere near what it or I can do but which bodes well for when the rear's sorted which I'll hopefully have a look at asap. The next race was only a couple of weeks after and due to being very busy at work didn |

hi therewas watching your video's, i race a 306 aswell but with more power. The handling is alright the problem is that you are on part trottle when it oversteers which is quite common on fwd. what you need to do is by the apex of the couner you should be on full trottle and the back just follows the front. going into the couner you want the back unselted a bit so you can get the front o turn in. Braking you could be a good 30-40 meters later in some places. Since you are learning i would focus on learning the car and track and the limits. i wouldn't mess with the car just yet. it only what i think |

TBH i think whether you are learning or not if the car has a completely different setup from standard then it will need to be fine tuned and setup for different conditions. If the rear beam was standard then maybe but it is completely different from standard. ________________________________________ 2.1 16v 306 Rallye. |

Breaking wise, are you refering to the combe vids? If so I fully agree, those vids are from my first drive in the car and first ever with unservo'd brakes so not even close to its pertential. Got more of the hang of them now, could just do with either raising the accel pedal or upping the m/c size for a little more travel so that I can reach to heal and toe. The reason for only being on part throttle in those is that the rear bump was too much for the rebound and it was jacking down on hard acceleration through the bends and hitting the bump stops - thus the sudden oversteer. So untill we sorted that, I was having to tip-toe through the bends unfortunately With the adjustments made at Llandow it feels very good and fantasticly neutral and can't wait to get out at combe. The back will stay were it should but if you do want it to move you can very controled. I fully agree, the apex of the bends round combe are full throttle - and they certainly will be The car was an absolute handfull for the first 2 races, we had to mess with it and its worked very well. I'll now be using the rest of the year get used to the car, the circuit I know very well. Cheers for the thoughts, I'm out at Combe next Sat. I'll pop my vids up early next week and I'd quite value your opinion if you don't mind watching them. What series do you race in? |

If your brakes are fine i'll just move the trottle pedal i had to do that aswell all part of racing and development. What shocks do you run on the car? ye i will look at you other vids when you have them up My 306 is currently getting rebuilt it has a 2.0 with around the 305bhp full group a front end, a one off rear beam setup, kit car brakes and i managed to fit them under 16 as i think they are better for handling. a one off 5 speed be3 a bit of a hybrid. I'm actually looking at a place that can convert the box to sequential shift for me lets see how that goes |

The maxi engines were done by pippo and by the end of development they were producing a so called 325 bhp but they rev to 11,000 rpm though. All the maxi engine were either alloy blocked mi16 or steel blocked mi16 but pippo did get the steel blocks cast in alloy and there around |

Superb thread Sorry to hijack thread, but, i've been looking for a 6/rallye for a while now, but haven't had a great deal of luck. I also have a 1.8 16v and, even though yours is a race car, would you say that having a throttle bodie set up on a standard 1.8 engine is a 'worth while' option? |

Thanks for the comments.Went to Combe on that Sat for the RS owners day and bought an all day track pass to have a bit more testing. An eventfull day but learned more about the car again, first session while following Matt I spun going through the esses. Wasn't going through that quick, just had absolutly no grip on the switch back to the left. But started finding the limits towards the end of the session trying to catch up with Matt again, a wheel or 2 on the grass exiting Camp and tower a couple of times. Stiffened up the rear a little and went out for the next session and 2 laps in the gear linkage came apart so rolled to a stop at the Esses and then got towed in. Doh! Long wait over lunch to the next so could fix the linkage and as I was going up to join the queue I couldn't get 2nd or 4th. Managed to grind a taper on the seat of the bolt with the aid of a clamp and file in Merlins and went out and had a good session. Still not quite happy with the handeling though, just didn't feel like there was that much grip, still feeling slippy even in the bone dry. Queueing up to go out again I noticed that the front right tyre had a big gash all the way round where the arch had been cutting in to it So back to the stand to change to the 15's with new Eagle F1's on. Tightening up the new bolts I bought on Thursday, 2 of them broke! The wrench was only set to 100 so not even that tight - They'll be going back! Fortunately the tapered ones fitted well so used them and went out. Queueing up to go out it started raining, which I was quite happy about so could try the new wet tyers. And what do ya know... I had more grip in the wet than in the dry with the 17's!!! So I think I've found my grip/handling problems Unfortunately though that was 5 O'clock so couldn't do any investigating, but I'm hoping that is the solution to a lot of my problems. Old crap tyres on larger wheels. So finished the day happy, just wish I'd tried the 15's and new tyres sooner! Didn't get any vids though unfortunately as the battery was flat Going to get some new rubber on some 15's for the next race and see how we get on. Fingers crossed it grips a lot better and I can start getting my confidence back in the car. |

Well I managed to pick up some other 15's and got some new tyres on in time for the following race.Unfortunately though a few days before the race I had to pull out Came down with a real bad sickness and was in no fit state to race so just spectated. Which was a great race to watch. Anyway, not too depressing as we have a double header 2 weeks later (next week). So this weekend I fitted the oil cooler and man it was certainly not cool doing it, I cooked on the drive doing it. But looks good and will hopefully do the job too... Forecast looks a little iffy for next weekend so I need to try and wire in the heated windscreen before then so I don't have the problems of not seeing like the last race day. :? Then give it a bolt check and make a new alternator bracket and I'm good to go. Timetable and entry list is out for next weekends (2nd/3rd Aug) double header race meeting... http://www.castlecombecircuit.co.uk/documents/TT&EntryList020808.pdf Combe Saloons: Qualy - Sat 10:05 Race - Sat 3:15 Race - Sun 2:15 Fingers crossed for some nice weather. |

WOW, what a weekend of racing! Started off with a hectic day Friday, started on the drive to strip the front hubs off for new bearings at 7:30am (After finding that both my front wheel bearing were knackered on Tuesday!). Got them back at lunch and later on in the day while dodging heavy rain showers refitted them and bolt checked the car. Then found the weights on the new wheels were hitting the callipers, so off to get them moved before 5. Finished getting it together at 8pm only to find a fuel leak hosing out of the injector rail. Managed to rob a connector off Hayley |

Here are my race vids from the weekend. Hope you enjoy them.Very wet qualy - Here The first start from Sat's race, Got caught behind the bad starting Civic of Tim Maddocks and half the field drove past but by the time we all got to quarry the red flags were out. Clicky Unfortunately thought after we all got back in to our original grid positions the batt went flat so no full race I'm afraid. And Sunday's race. Shame I didn |
