Got the Rallye booked in @ my local for the fitting of my 50mm springs and shocks and asked them about torsion lowering to match. The guy screwed up his face and said it was a huge job that would involve taking the whole beam out and would potentially ruin the bushes etc at the same time?

Is he being over dramatic because they don't want the job or are they correct? The car is sorned so can't take the car anywhere else really (they can pick the car up on their flatbed you see as it's literally a 5 minute walk from where the car is) so want as much information on the job to help them out so I'm not charged hours and hours of labour...

he knows jack s**t, specifically just to lower it wont need taking apart, just the bars pulling out.

however if its never been rebuilt then yes its well overdue and will need that anyway.

I would recommend against 50mm, that's way too much unless its much stiffer.

Haven't really got rebuild money, surely it can just be adjusted without that?

What are you classing as rebuild money? Like WP says if its never had a rebuild and you are over 100k it will need doing. If the car is sorned why don't you remove the axle yourself and currier it to Andy and then Currier one of his rebuilt beams (pre lowered to suit) back to you? Or is the car only staying off the road for a little while longer? I'm just thinking if its not going on the road straight away it would give you some time to save up for an axle from Andy? Just a thought as it sounds like the garage you are taking it to dont seem too happy undertaking the job? Just a thought?

indeed....whats been said before. basically either end of the torsion bar depending on which you pop out will give different degrees of travel.

easiest way is to let arms flop freely measure the gap. adjust your torsion bars. remeasure gap. if its what you want sweet, if its not ballache again with torsion bar untill it is.

my way of getting it out (freeing arms/torsion bars) was to use a large/long peice of wood and a sideways 306 car jack inbetween the two swing arms to pop em off/out.

the bolts at the end of each torsion bar youve undone are the side that will pop out.

simples
