Evening all, my 6 has been sorn and garage bound for close to 6 years now and this summer should be retuning to the road. For the first time in that time the covers came off and I had a good look around and got a feel for what was needed. Thing is, there doesn’t seem to be any left on the road and looking at spares online, things look a little thin on the ground. I haven’t paid any attention to the car, forum, parts or cars in general as life has been far too busy, things seem to have moved on greatly. Are genuine parts still available from Peugeot? Are there any sites that are god for general parts? Going to need a headlight, rad, air con rad, discs and pads etc. And any thing else I find whilst I’m tinkering. Any advise is welcome! I’ve never left the forum just been very quiet in the background, owner of the same car for 14 years and counting.

Hi

Having just about completed a refurb of a GTI that was off the road for 7 years I have some experience of what is out there,

Firstly here is very quiet but there is a world on info and knowledge you just need to either search or ask the right questions,

Peugeot still sell some stuff for the 306 but it's quiet random, the Museum shop is handy for bits but again it's very limited what the have,

One of the things you will struggle to get is a good rad, OE are not available and the Nissens and Valeo ones are poor, I got my original refurbished as I couldn't source a good new one,

I pulled the AirCon from mine as the whole system was rotten, pads and discs and all other stuff like that most Motor Factors or any of the online places will have them,

And headlights and panels can be gotten 2nd hand easily,

If you are on Facebook there is a GTI/Rallye group and a 306 Owners Club group both are worth a join as that is one of the best ways to pick up bits,

Even if this forum is quiet, you will always get help at some point. For me this forum is the most valuable source of information. I find information here that I could not find anywhere else.

And indeed the FB pages are great!

If you do not mind importing second hand parts, a friend of mine and myself have quite some spare parts as well.

plenty of service parts available still, give it a timing belt a service and a set of tyres, don't forget the brake fluid and inspect the rubber hoses.

Also check the CV boot. Standing still can cause the boot to dry out and crack...

If you're not in a hurry then keep your eye on ebay. I've bought a lot of genuine parts that have clearly been sitting around in someones garage or warehouse for years. Some sellers realise the rarity of these parts and command a high price while others are selling cheaper than they were from Peugeot originally. As others have said, service parts are still very easy to come by. I still buy Pagid discs and pads from ECP as well as suspensions stuff that wears out like wishbone bushes and ball joints.

This is very similar to my recent experience with my car: I declared a SORN for 3-4 years from 2012, then periodically used it between spring and autumn in the time since with other bouts of time spent off the road as a SORN. I decided to finally give it a decent look over as a lockdown project in January and am getting to the end of that process now. I won't call it a restoration because that's overplaying it; more of a thorough assessment and preventative maintenance session.

I, too, hadn't kept an eye on the parts situation for years and suddenly found that many specific OE parts are not available from dealers anymore, but many general ones are. I've used Autodoc several times now; it has a better catalogue of parts than some of the UK motor factors. Delivery times from Germany can be very slow through, thanks to the Brexs**t gift that keeps on giving. Most general service parts are available as pattern through the locals factors and online.

I'm also recommissioning my air conditioning; new Valeo condenser and receiver/drier, pipes removed checked and cleaned, replaced if needed, new O rings upon reassembly. I'll use a local air conditioning specialist to vacuum test the system as the next step. Then re-gas it or replace any other parts that show up in a dye test. LOL

One on my main objectives of this project was to strip down and visually assess all 4 corners and the front end for significant chassis corrosion of the type that could be terminal for the car. Some of the project threads show some horrific rusty shells, even many years ago. Thankfully mine wasn't anywhere near as bad as these and, following the remediation I carried out, I should have arrested the spread of what was there for a significant time. While you're doing all this extra work it might be worth checking for rust while you're there.

Good luck with with your car, however detailed you go.

I use AutoDoc a good bit and hate the way the substitute branded parts for stark without telling you, I'm guessing the have an interest in Stark, it's sickening that they will ship to the UK and the mess than is Brexit for free, but minimum postage to us here in Ireland is 28 euro,

Hi Lee, i've restored my Rallye over the last few years (in the projects section if you want a look) and have a fairly good list of aftermarket parts should you need anything. I'm talking about components parts ie brakes, steering suspension etc and not things like panels and switches, trim bits etc so if i can be of help then please give me a shout bud. Good luck with the resto Thumbs up

That’s great news guys, I came back in a couple of times and could see it was very quiet. The lack of parts online then seemed add to the fear as my wish list grew longer. Many thing at the moment is to get it moving and an MOT. Then the real work will begin. I may start a thread up of the progress.
