Not sure which part of me trying to be helpful you didn’t understand either, as you also stated you wanted engine box and ECU to transplant into a cabbie. I have all of this sat in my garage.
Good luck in finding a donor.
Jeffers, my apologies. You are right, that was a bit of a terse reply and I see you were only trying to help. In my defence, I'm sure you have experienced it before where you advertise something and get loads of silly questions. I guess I jumped to the conclusion that your reply was one of those and I'm sorry for that.
Anyway, yes, I do want an engine and box, but also I would much rather buy a complete running car. Partly because every engine stashed in the back of a garage 'has only done 50k mate, runs sweet as a nut', but also because when doing a conversion there are always a million brackets, pipes, nuts and bolts, you name it that you never knew you needed and you spend ages hunting around the Internet trying to find them. Either that or you spend ages trying to work out which bit in the box of random parts goes where.
Buying a complete car, even for more money, means it can be heard running, run up to temperature, road tested, etc and you know you have everything needed. I have two ramps side by side in my garage so I can literally unbolt parts bit by bit and swap them over. It also means I can potentially take the rear beam, front brakes, etc and maybe there will even be some bits left to make a few quid back on.
Stating the obvious, ideally I would like to find a low mileage car in poor body condition, perhaps with accident damage. As a second choice a higher mileage car with some money left for a freshen up of the engine and box.
I'm in no hurry, the cab will be going indoors soon as unlikely to be much decent weather now until Spring, and I've got an MR2 to finish in the mean time. If the right car comes along though I'll buy it and stick it in the yard until I'm ready for it.
Hope that explains!
