Some may know that Captain Ash has handed over the rains to me and Lee,..
we want to bring this place back from the brink and make it somewhere what it was before!
obviously the days of pages and pages or batarus threads will most likely live on Facebook but we'd like to keep the wealth of information alive and continue growing!

so the main question is what do we do?

between me and Lee we are splitting the forum costs between us but would like it if the forum could be self sustained ie bring in it's own income

Idea's i've had are,.

a Youtube Channel we could upload Video versions of our FAQ's and create new ones
take on advertising after XXX amount of subscribers get that to generate income
(possibly put links to your own youtube channels)

Merchandise
i've made keyrings and mugs in the past id be happy to create a generic design and have various things made,.
Glass etched Pint glasses etc the more expensive things like the dogtag keyrings would have to wait till we had biger numbers again due to production costs

Haynes PDF's
i've put up pdf versions of helpful manuals (Haynes/306 Maxi/Xu10j4rs Engine) at £2 each here

Tamiya Decals
i've also thought about making a set of Tamia Maxi Decals i've nearly finished the artwork just look at a production cost
someone is already making the bodies again but the Decals suck!

anyone have any other ideas or things they'd like to see implemented?

We'd really appreciate some positive input from you guys to help take this place forward!

Dave

One of the mini forums I’m on does a prize draw where you buy tickets (to cover the cost of the prize) they use this to generate income.

Well I have a spare new o.e 3521.E4 righthand side wishbone I can donate for Auction or raffle, just let me know the address of the winner and I'll send it out to them.

I had lost enthusiasm for my 6 for a while, but glad this place is still going as these cars are getting rarer now and revisited the site for parts. My 6 is getting a respray and gonna deffo put more effort in retoring her. Maybe promote the forum more on Facebook with regular pics of the cars to keep people interest in them and mentions of the forum using links.

Ambitious attempt to make the forum a more popular place again. I like the idea of the YouTube channel because I think it is an effective way to gain attention. We could start with the most common (and easy) repairs on the 6 like cleaning of the ICV, ECU reset or even cambelt replacement which seems to confuse people doing it the first time on these engines, and generate visits this way. If it works out, more video tutorials can follow. In case there will be a YouTube channel, I can help providing videos as soon as there is something to do on my car.

We could also add another generic 306 sub-forum for non-6-drivers or users with a second non-6 306. I think this will also gain users.

Be careful with providing of these manuals for money. In Germany this could lead you into trouble (copyright etc.).

Slightly seasonal but I used to like the calendars. Might be one way for some income once a year?
Like old times, members submit pictures of their cars and people vote. Should encourage people to be more active too.

I'm up for the youtube channel and also the return of the calendar sounds wicked. Also, is it possible to make a donations linky thing really obvious and easy? Maybe using PayPal as everyone has that and its quick whereas before it was world pay or something and that's just a ball ache.

Valid point there actually, UK copyright law I'm sure would prohibit the reproduction of the Haynes manual (or any other publication for that matter) on a public forum, whether for money or not. It should probablt never have been PDF'd in the first place and put on the download section.....even though I have a copy!! LOL

If I thought you'd cough up a penny I'd do a belly dance
We could just put a10% on all your for sale threads if fees are not paid 1 day after thead is started we remove them and delete your account! Flip

I'm up for doing a calender though!,..
I'm sure if you wanted to make Lee donations he won't object and he'll put it into the same account I pay into, Thumbs up

Haynes I'll keep the offer open but if someone official comes finger wagging I'll curb it Wink

Oh burn. TBH I'd rather not see you belly dancing, that was just a joke, clearly missed. In the original donation period years ago I did actually pay a couple of times till I left as lost interest as being forced to pay when it was enforced. What's wrong with for sale threads, you've punted products over time, I just happen to own lots of 306 parts that I don't need/want anymore. No malice intended just stating facts. Thumbs up plus trying to punt my leftover parts.

If you recall banter is what made this place years ago so that's what we need back IMHO. The cars are getting thinner on the ground as are the owners obviously that will post on here so we need to retain former members to keep the numbers up/interested in posting on here, to remain active.

Good suggestions thus far but need to get former members using it as a social experience as well.

Can you utilise the email data from the forum to send emails to members without breaching GDPR rules informing them of freeness and come back?

handed over the rains? ! Met Office know this yet?!

Be great if the forum continued. Agree needs to aim at former members as well as current 6/Rallye owners. If intended to be free, can't see that it would be a big issue to ask for contributions eg £5. (but pls keep WorldPay as not everyone has PayPal. Can't be arsed with that.)

YouTube vids of how to could be an attraction, but, only for those continuing to own (dwindling numbers).
I see the 208 owners forum is free. But not as much a laugh as here LOL

Sponsorship? Relevant advertising?
Needs heads together.
Keep up the rains!

Sadly, there just aren’t as many on the road now as there was 12-15 years ago when the forum was thriving. I pop my head in every now and then but I have no intention of getting another one.

I think facebook has really hurt a lot of forums, people find facebook groups easier to use. I know there is a gti6 group, it maybe worth getting the forum branding all over that to guide people back here?

For funding, have free membership with ads, small fee for removal of ads.
