I’m going to be doing an engine oil change, as it gets pretty hot in the summer here what oil should I use or would 10w60 be ok? And is a fully, semi or mineral oil best? |

I've always used Castrol Magnatec 5W30 Fully Synthetic. After nearly 14yrs of the same GTi-6 ownership and using that I can vouch for it without question.________________________________________ "Gotta Love The 6"According to my wife i think the 6 is the fastest car in the world, perhaps she is right LoL ! |

Out of interest, why are you using a different grade to the 10W40 Magnatec that Castrol recommend for the GTi-6? Genuinely interested to know what's driven your choice to use a different grade to the one recommended by both the car manufacturer and the oil manufacturer. ________________________________________ Rich |

Carl Chambers recommended it as he has always used it in all his GTi-6s with no problems and of all his decades of being a Pug specialist I have no reason to doubt him or his recommendation. I have had no problems in the running of my 6 and when he did a head rebuild and bottom bearing change I had little or no wear in any part of the engine. Only had the work done as my wife took my 6 for a swim ! ________________________________________ "Gotta Love The 6"According to my wife i think the 6 is the fastest car in the world, perhaps she is right LoL ! |

I run my 306 race car on Rock carbon 0W-40 fully synthetic oil. I had it put in after having the engine carbon cleaned. It seems to run better so I am happy. ________________________________________ Adventure before Dementia !! |

With engines over 100K miles I'd stick with 10w40, I wouldn't go thinner. The original alternative to 10w40 semi-synth was 5w40 fully synth (can't remember whether I read that in the manual or on the Opie Oils site). Even though I'm sure a decent semi-synth is fine, I like to over-spec it using a high spec 10w40 fully synth from Millers, Gulf or someone like that. I normally get it from Opie Oils and do it myself. ________________________________________ Cherry Rallye SOLD |
