Hi,
I thought I’d say hello, I’ve just bought my first 306 Gti6, it’s a ‘98. It has fsh but needs some tidying, I’d like to know how many there are in Aus-I’ve only seen 1 205 Gti so I take it these are pretty rare too.
So hello from a very rainy Western Aus!

Hi there. Did you buy it in Australia or import it yourself?

A nice rust free example then given your climate (despite the rain!)

It’s badged Gti, it is in very good condition for the age but needs tidying, I think lacquer peel is far worse here than rust. I can only find 2 others for sale in Aus at the moment so I presume they’re quite rare here.

Yes, they are fairly rare in Australia, so look after it - you've got a gem there. Cool

G'day, welcome to the site. These were seriously expensive is Oz when new. Lots of import duty made them not far off price of a V8 Commodore, to subsidise home-grown car production. Lacquer peel is easier to sort than the ravages of UK road salt, that's for sure.

What are your plans for it?

I’ve seen another 306 gti, funnily enough it was exactly the same as mine including the garage sticker where it’d been serviced! I actually “know” the owner as I deal with his company occasionally yet I’d never taken notice of it before.

I just want to get it running properly at the moment, I’ve had the timing belt & water pump done, the offside drop link needs doing so I ordered 2 to do both sides and I’ve ordered some new rear pads and discs. I’ve had a slight problem with the gearbox linkages so I’ve ordered a set off Miles.
Other than that, if no other problems arise in the next few months I think I might go for a respray. The interior is ok but the material on the front door cards if lifting, no doubt dodgy glue from the factory Thumbs down so I think that’ll need some attention at some stage too.
In the long run, I’d like to get a few more horses out of it but getting it running properly is the most important thing at the moment.

I keep forgetting she’s 20 years old to be honest, I think they still look quite fresh and not really dated...except for the interior. The paintwork needs a bit of a touch up on the rear quarters but other than that it’s pretty good, I want to respray the wheels a different colour, I’ve thought about mid grey metallic or white but can’t make my mind up.
