Thought i would start a new project thread for this as I'm finally about to start changing this car from a daily drive to have more of a track/fast road focus.

So I picked the car up about 4 years ago as a stolen recovered car for £1000 with around 70k on the clock.

for the first 3 years of ownership it was used as my daily but about a year ago i changed job and I now have a work van so no longer need the car on a daily basis and it currently sits round the back of my flat for days on end being wasted.

unfortunately its been rather neglected up until now other than being serviced and having a new heater matrix its not really seen much action.

Reasons for the neglect are due to a few other projects I've had over the years but these have now gone and cleared the way for the 306 to be loved again

so once all of this is fitted i would also like to get a harness bar welded in and do some weight reduction

The only other mentionable things that i have done over the last 4 years was as soon as i got the car as it was a stolen recovered car it didn't come with any service history or proof of ever having a clutch or head gasket so i did both and while doing the head gasket i gave the whole top end a rebuild.

Also took the chance to add a K and N filter and some Rich_W ally pulleys.
as part of the track prep i intend to remove the A/C and fit a Rallye setup

Very interesting thread mate. Some lovely looking parts there. I’m sure you know but one thing I must recommend is moving that intake unless it will be ‘dry days only’ car. Good luck with the build. I look forward to the progress Thumbs up

Yeah I wasn’t really sure what to do with the inlet air filter as I was planning on fitting a full replacement undertray and making some kind of undertray splitter combo but dunno what people’s thoughts on here are about that kinda thing

Best setup for standard engine is the original filter housing/ducts with a ‘upgraded’ Filter if you wish. Most open filter get heat soak or dangerous in wet conditions. Putting the filter higher will just put it nearer to the heat source.

Yeah I’m aware the best setup is the standard air box but I would always choose a KandN over that due to the induction raw you get

I am indeed! Luckily I have a friend to help, who happens to have his own GTI6 and a nice big garage so hopefully soon the car will go up to his and get completely stripped down and upgraded. Giving me a good amount of time before heading out to the Nurburgring in April

Nice work so far, let me know how you get on with the wheel studs, i'm after a decent set for mine.
Will you be out at the 'ring any time after April this year? Are you doing a trackday or just TF? I'll be there at the end of July for a week.

All these cool project on this forum are not good for me :p

As soon as our new garage is built, I need to start a decent project as well.

Question: How did you fit the K&N filter to the OEM tube?

I’m at the ring 26th-30th April and that’s all I have planned so far this year at the moment. I want to get a few other track days planned but I imagine they will be later in the year as I’m getting married in June so most of my money is going towards that at the moment

That’s a genuine gti6 KandN kit so the filter housing is matched to the standard inlet pipe. I just removed the standard filter housing and then connected the filter to the inlet pipe and bolted be filtet bracket to the gearbox.

Tidy car, I always liked a nice clean Moonstone, wanted a HDi in moonstone back in the day before finding a clean China.

Ah it had to be done! I had actually forgotten about stuff I've got for the car so there is still more than i have shared lol

one of which is this exhaust system

not really sure what brand it is, i think its a bit of a mix but its from a rallye car hence the odd bits that are painted as i had to get it welded up. The back box is made by Scorpion however its way bigger than the usual Scorpion back box and it has a sleeve style fitment like a Magnex i think the centre section is Magnex and then the system also came with the twin tube decat pictured above. if anyone has any more info on what this could be please let me know.

but to add to the parts like I've also got a Nissens ally rad and ill be switching the oil from 10w40 standard basic stuff to 10w50 Fuchs Titan Race pro S when i install the oil cooler.

I'm in Rugby, but obviously the tracks aren't local to everyone! starting to move to the further afield ones now she's behaving.

Have family in Goring-by-sea, head down that way every couple of months!

Ah fair enough I almost moved over to Goring last year but sadly it all fell through.

Yeah I wanted to try and do Spa either on the way to the ring or home but they don’t seem to have released any dates yet.

I will most likely aim to do Brands and Snett this year. I think there is meant to be a full day at snett in March for £140 which I would like to get too if the car is ready.

Why spacers on the rear? Guessing it's for the brakes for the front, but for a track car it's weight and an unnecessary complication!

spacers will only be used with the cyclones which won't be used on track so its not a weight issue and i spaced the rears as the studs are 90mm long and just looked a little silly sticking miles out of the cyclones. it was purely for aesthetics. plus i liked the spaced out look.
