Hi does anyone know if a citroen xsara vts rear beam will fit straight on a gti6? I need a new beam and as they have thicker bars I may get one if they fit?

however if you have no history of it being rebuilt, 99% of them will be utterly borked.

Mine had about 20k ish miles on and seems okay, I assume a beam should go 70-100k i would hope...

nope, mileage is irrelevant to a major extent, I recall a "50k miles" VTS beam being totally seized to the point that the trailing arm came off the shaft which was stuck in the tube.

base model beams are the longest lasting, but even now the youngest is 15 years old.

Ah I see... bit crap that you don't really know if the beams any good unless its on a car to see or has recently been rebuilt... sorry this is a bit off topic but out of interest MOT wise how clued up are testers on play in the rear beam? Most cars seem to have independent rear suspension so would trailing arm play be a something only a more specialist/knowledgeable tester would detect?

I think my beam is f**ked because of spacing between the wheel and chassis on the drivers side. Feels very close. So I was going to order xsara one from im axles.

I wouldn't touch them with a poo covered stick.

I personally would get a base model beam for the tube, a shaft and bearing kit (I have them in stock) and build your arms and bars into it.

most testers wont pick up a rear beam unless they know to look for it, at which point they are well beyond saving if they do fail.

the only way to tell properly is to strip the arms off.

oh and they are independent.

I'm sure welshpug or stef306 can rebuild yours.

If not, I can have a rebuilt std gti6 axle done within a couple of days. New shafts, bearings, seals and mounts

I'm in north wales though

Allot of people say that the axles from IM axles have play within a few months but this is just what I've read, no personal experience. I understand you get a two year warranty but the time required to get the axle off send it back to be repaired... get it on again only to fail within a few more months would be painful... that's the reason I went second hand low milage vts axle... would have loved a jord axle but a failed MOT didn't leave me a huge amount of time to sort it...

there was play in an IM axle I worked on last weekend, shafts fine thankfully, SNR bearing kit fixed it, also the shaft had been pressed in too far so the outer bearing was hanging off the end of it.

you should see their attempts at the 106 units, bearings with half the needle count etc every laughable.

Careful their pins are made from cheese and incorrect size/tolerance on those units
