After a original phase 3 spoiler. Am I right in thinking they're made from a different material than the phase 2? Mine is currently looking very shabby and I want to repaint it. However I was told by a body shop it would be a useless exercise due to the material it's made out of?

As far as I know, there is a phase 1 and 2, and a phase 3.

The phase 1 and 2 are one piece. The phase 3 is a two-piece version that is a bit longer.

I think a few members painted a phase 3 with good result.

Phase 3 is plastic afaik and should be no problem to paint. Mine is painted. Phase 2 is rubber and is trickier to paint. The paint can also crack due to flexing.

Most do sand it down and use a plastic high build primer then paint
There is other paint type filler products you can get to smooth them out

Bear in mind the mounting is different between phase 2 and 3.

Phase 2 mounts through holes in the rear hatch glass whereas phase 3 doesn't so if you're going from 2 to 3 you'll need to drill a couple of extra holes in the hatch and plug the holes in the glass.
