I'm sure I spotted you also had the diesel sport version as well. How does that go compared to the petrol version?

LOL....only having a laugh...LOL

I think I've pretty much decided that I shall have myself an R26. Blue or yellow would be the preference.

Will spend the rest of the year sorting out the bodywork (as the rest of the car is awesome!!) and look to acquire the Megane in the new year..!

went on a France trip last year with a handful of hot hatches and the r26 f1 was the most impressive for me.

Megane 225 F1 is a limited run of cars to commemorate Renault winning the F1 championship.

Cars were all Ultra blue bar 6 mega rare black ones.

Came with blue/black recaros and a few stickers. These are the only differences over a standard 225.

The one to go for is an Renaultsport Megane R26 as there come with a better suspension set up and the LSD as standars

Yes, will defo be R26 and not anything else.... as you say, it's the extra's that are definately worth having over the boggo RS Megane.

I reckon £7k should get me a decent 08 plate in the right colour and with the leather recaro interior.

Yes you'll get a cracker for 7k!

Bought mine for 5k and it's got some nice bits on it but I've sunk another 2k into in but will be 300bhp soon! Hyper

Not an R26.... Had a MKII before so know the general story re basic handling/steering etc.

I have to go against the grain here when it comes to the Megane, though your certainly doing the right thing in regards to only considering an R26, but in my opinion which is based around owning a late low miles 225 which was subsequently upgraded and spending time on the forums, I don't feel they are a particularly good car or indeed anything special to drive. The chassis is fundamentally good as are the brakes, but the gearchange is terrible, the throttle unresponsive and the steering limited in feel, the engine to me always felt very mundane, even uprated whilst it clearly had the power, it was never exciting or enjoyable to extend. Which may be why so many people chase power with them, even at stage 1 the power is plenty, making them actually fun to steer is the issue imo.

On top of this the build quality and rattles are just plain annoying, and they suffer their fair share of electrical issues, I guess its worth remembering that by the R26 they were a previous generation car, and to me they feel it.

Of course everything can be improved, R26R shortshift helps the gearchange, ditching the dual mass flywheel supposedly improves the throttle etc etc, but for me I'd take a renaultsport clio everytime, and if I simply wanted a faster car, a renaultsport megane wouldn't figure.

I have turbo charged one . Not had much use but she made 320bhp on the rollers after being mapped with 1.5 bar boost, and I have the capability to up the boost in the future (runs safely at 2.3 bar boost).

The gearbox has been upgraded to a ML5T box which took some work but is a hell of a lot cheaper than other options. The expensive bit is the clutch and flywheel which cost me over £1k. The standard and even 'upgraded' clutches with standard fitment were no good and lasted less than an hour of use on the rollers.

Unfortunately the costs involved are much more than the costs required to buy a Megane and values after all the modifications are going to be small in comparison to what you have spent charging it.

IMO if you are bored, want something relatively original and something that has your own blood sweat and tears put into it, whack a big dirty turbo on an xu engine.
If you just want a nice car to play with buy a Megane.

Cheers

bobby
