Robin rider hows it doing Smile
Try refitting the clutch cable or just fitting a new one they tend to rust a little at the bulk head the cable cuts into the rubber shroud also causing it to grip n get heavy the angle as it comes through the bulk head is crap and hard to fit correctly causing this issue fairly commonly
Try a dura cable if you dont want to pay out for a oem there around £20 see the fitting guide tie a cord around the white clip etc should take around half hour once jacked up
Easier to do on ramps Smile
I also grease mine at the pedal hole spray down the wire into the sheath and work it in it helps
Can operate my clutch with my fingertips genuinely

any history of replacement?

probably needs one by now as the springs seem to stiffen up with age, the bushes wear and shafts rust.

The cable wont seem stiff if theres no pressure/tension bud
If its not the cable however would suggest as welshpug has not much else to it

Biting point is it low or high ???
Check that the black plastic fitting is sitting correctly in the gearbox fiting point
If your cable is stretched it will be a little higher possibly
If your clutch isnt worn out ???
Got my last one from euro car parts

Also as mentioned the spring maybe stiff try lubricating it
