Dunno unless its been fractured at some point in its life whike being off the Car?

Do you have bent valves now?

I have never seen one of these fail in this way before! The older style ones yes, but never these.

Over the years I've seen plenty of weird and wonderful failures but this has me stumped. I've never seen the later pulleys fail either and were crack tested prior to going on as well which is what really p*&^es me off.

The pulley has in effect exploded ripping the side out of the timing belt before the piece jammed into the cover. There was no bang, rattle, etc the engine just stopped.

no bent valves Smile must have been kissed on the dick by a fairy

new sprockets and a cam belt and not a tap to be heard.

locks the cam pulleys together so you can torque up the centre bolt to 40Nm

its a copy of the peugeot tool for the job
very much like the one i made myself Wink

i doubt peugeot used one of those on the j4r and j4rs due to the adjustable pulleys, they need to be loose when you tension the belt.

It's not used for anything other than the moment you crack/lock the cam pulley bolts. It doesn't interfere with the adjustment as it's already been removed.

I've always managed to torque the cam pulley bolts without the need for one of those. There is generally always someone floating about that I can get to sit in the car with it in 6th gear and put the brake on.

far from ideal, puts a very high force through the tensioner, probably why I've seen the casting break off where the tensioner thread is.

I use one of these.

Really? So how do you undo/torque the bottom pulley bolt then? Lock the crank somehow I guess?

yup.

well i use an impact driver man enough to loosen the bolts without turning the crank Big grin but otherwise a good screwdriver in the ring gear.

I've always used the method I described without issue.

A screwdriver in the ring gear could cause broken teeth on the flywheel, not something I'd like to cause.
