I have a bit of a weird one, when I start the car from cold it sometimes fires as normal the instantly dies, second start it will start as normal, I can catch it if I'm fast enough to blip the throttle, other times it will fire, idle lumpy for a few seconds then return to normal.
The weird thing about this is that it only does it when using super unleaded, if its run on standard 95 RON fuel it starts and idles perfectly, I've tried it a few times switching back and forth between fuels to confirm this.
Any ideas?Dunno

Try your stepper motor (idle control valve)
If that has caput the car will fire up then die!

Think its a case of go through the sensors change each out till it cures

Can you get it plugged in anywhere

Does it usually happen after refulling or just at anytime

Icv map lambda injectors coils sparkplugs ????(?

Higher octane hotter burning temp bigger explosion different exhaust emmisions
Lambda may not approve icv maybe sticky not as reactive as it should be map sensor maybe bolloxed

Yep it is, I was going to change it anyway as I have occasional other idle issues, it was just the fuel thing that was throwing me.

I'm having similar issues. From searching there's loads of things it could be, people tend to say ICV pretty quickly but i haven't read people having much luck with that. The potential reasons I've seen are:

1. ICV
2. Green Temp Sensor (one for ECU, I'm about to fit a new one to see if it's that)
3. Blocked fuel filter
4. Lazy fuel pump (try priming it twice see if it starts better)
5. Poor earths
6. Lambda (but haven't seen this much)
7. Lazy battery with poor crank (I think this is contributing to my problem)
8. Map sensor
9. Crank sensor

Not too many! Is yours decatted out of interest?

Its still running a cat, I did think of replacing the green sensor, I haven't gotten round to it yet but I did compare the resistance of a known good one after sitting it on the thermostat housing for a good time so it was at the same temp as the one fitted and it gave an identical reading.
Oh, and I have tried priming the pump a few times in a row, made no difference.

Report back on how you get on. Would be interested to hear.

Just a quick update, I seem to have cured this, new oe green sensor and new Bosch map sensor. They were replaced together so I'm not sure which was to fault.
