Don't want to spend anymore money and time on it to be honest, might try and sell it or break it unless anyone has cheap engine or a head

They hydraulic lifters don't ever fail to be honest.

You will have some bent valves. 6 teeth is quite a lot in terms of camshaft degrees.

I have a cheap reconditioned cylinder head for sale in the For Sale forum, if you want to get her fixed up.

Cheers
Rich

300 for a head, 100 for pump and belt kit, 15 for bolts, 40 for gasket.

itll be good for another 36k when the belt will be due again.

rule 1 of gti6/rallye ownership:

change the belt.

tappets can fail, especially at the age they are now, I was a bit sceptical till recently, when i found half a dozen in one head.

however this WILL be a few bent valves

Taps went engine is cold or hot, will do a compression test as I tried a stefoscope on it and tapping is coming from cylinder 2 inlet.

head of the valve will eventually break off and destroy the engine

ATM it is fixable with a head rebuild

if you loose the valve it is a replacement engine complete

mileage is irrelevant if its too old, or the tensioners weren't changed

Done a compression test and all cylinders are 200 psi, could it still be a bent valve or more a hydraulic rapper?
