I have just replaced my ph2 '98 door with a ph2 '97 door however the pins for the window switch are different. My old door had a loom with 7 pins and my new loom only has four. So my window switch/mirror adjuster doesn't work. I need to fix my the loom between the car and the door to hopefully sort the failed central locking but am I gonna be surprised with more electrical differences? Also is it as simple as getting a 4 pin window switch to resolve the issue? I swapped the door to save money on body shop dent repairs but am I better off biting the bullet and putting the old door back on?

Why not swap the loom over? Not a hard job really as long as you can bend your arm in funny directions

How do I go about swapping the looms over? That may fix the issue with the window switch but might it cause issues with other stuff in the door that would be using a newer loom and potential pin layout like the window motor and central locking? Also there is a box riveted to the door that then goes to the window switch and mirror control does this need to be drilled off?

97 to a 98 car loom will be different too i suspect

as one has the security box under the rear seats central locking only unit

98 has the security unit in the lower dash locking/alarm combined

that year is ph2-ph3 wiring changeover

putting the wrong door switch in a ph2 with the relay box in the door will blow a fuse Wink

you will need to fit your original door loom to match your car loom Thumbs up

So I can replace the loom but leave the window motor and door latches on and it should all work? And I thought this would be a simple door off, door back on job... Crazy

not read this properly but just check about the auto window switch - i stuck a p3 window switch from a gti6 onto my hdi and it kept blowing fuses because the gti6 had another pin for the auto option

Okay I will swap the looms over tomorrow and hope that resolves it. What do you mean by putting the phase 2 window motor plug on the ph3 loom? As in cut and solder on? It looks like it may have blown a fuse to as now the passenger side windows aren't working :/

The drivers door and window switch is part of the circuit for the passenger window, so without it all connected the passenger side won't work Thumbs up

ph3 window motor has a different plug to a ph2

you may have to change the loom motor plug over for your new door
