I've got a snapped off mounting point on a gearbox I purchased, never realised and have paid to have it cleaned up and painted .
So I was hoping to switch over the two end casings from a old box I've got if possible, does anyone have any experience of swapping over casings straight forward job ?

Shot blasting £50 if you degrease, plug up and mask up all the holes yourself, painting is extra my gearbox had clear acid etch and a clear coat to seal. They did a good job nice guys.

casing assemblies are line bored so its not wise to use parts from another case.

swapping internals to another 6 speed is not an issue.

I had the same issue and I swapped the casing off a box with a f**ked 3rd and 4th selector and never had any issues with it.

Ok its possible do then. Are there any recommend parts to change while your in there or replace bearings/seals you have pulled and did you need any special tools other than the usual spanners etc ?

New nuts for the ends of the shafts are recommended but not essential, but for a couple of quid each its worth it, you could replace the inlet shaft seal but never known one to leak. The driveshaft seals are worth doing though. Unless there's any problems with the rest of it, leave it all alone. Not a bad idea to fully degrease everything and maybe stick it all through the dishwasher, make sure its all spotless before it goes back together.

Depending on how much thread is left in mounting point, I'd be tempted to clean it up and get a small spacer made up to the original height and see how that goes.

For the hassle and the price of a 2nd hand box I would just buy another box. It's not an easy job if you have never done one before

The damage isn't that bad and there's plenty of thread left. I'd sand/file it flat put some washers on to get the right height back under the mount and carry on. Unless I'm missing something and it's cracked? Just looks like the top of the hole is a bit chewed up to me.

id say there's a good 15mm missing and it has been welded before.

Yep looks like it's been welded before and it's strapped off at the lowest point so the stud isn't long enough to bite into what's left.
