Got my eye on one of these, going for a test drive soon hopefully (2009 reg). Anyone got one or driven one? Looks like it would be a great all-round car. Wasn't keen on the look of them but they are growing on me... |

Not very good at all on fuel, especially when coming from a 172 which was superb. It's a Renault, which is always a shame. They have an annoying flat spot which is exacerbated when an aftermarket exhaust is added and especially when de-catted. It can be mapped out apparently. You can learn to apply throttle differently so as to avoid it. Kangarooing from cold is a common issue. I like the gear stick assembly. It's no 'rifle loading MX5' shifter but it's much nicer to use than a 306 which considering it's still a several year old Renault you can't complain. Steering feel takes some getting used to. Recaros are very high so you sit on top of the car. I've never sat in one with the horrible non option seats so they may be lower, but look very nasty. Things to look for: Crunchy gearboxes - many would have been sorted under warranty with varying levels of subsidy but now they are an aging car owned by youths on a shoestring, there are shoddy examples. Blow from the manifold flexi joint. Front hub (knuckle joints) fail and are often a pain to remove and change. Cambelt changes aren't cheap. Cup doesn't have air con so are cheaper to do, but dephaser pulleys should be done at the same time which adds ~£120 to the job. You need to buy/borrow tools so it's more involved than a '6 belt. It's certainly something to factor in to bargaining. I'd personally only buy one with Recaro options as they are worth up to a grand and I personally like to break cars for parts when I am finished with them (got my eye on the Brembos!) ________________________________________ |

I would save yourself some money and buy a 182, better car all round I think and I work on them for a living. The 197 & 200 don't really have any go about them, you seem to wait and wait and nothing comes then you change gear and so on where the 182 is lighter and quicker and with the VVT you feel the extra kick around 5k rpm. The 197 & 200 interior is very plastic and dull, I know the 182 isn't much better tho. That's just my opinion on them tho and I drive them on a daily basis ________________________________________ Clicky: click here remove the space between [url & = |

With the values of 197'd now, you get more for your money opposed to a 182 imo.If I was buying a mk2 now it would only be a 172 Cup. That's where my money would be. Saying that, when the 197s hit the 2k mark I will probably build a track car out of one and bung a Megane engine in. I prefer the chassis of them. ________________________________________ |

Think if I was to buy any it would be a mk1 172. The money you would save buying a 172/182 you could go 300bhp+ turbo instead of a 197/200 that's what route I would take but then again I would rather a gti6 over a Clio sport any day________________________________________ Clicky: click here remove the space between [url & = |
