Trial fitted a cage I bought off someone. (From a 306)
Its a saftey devices (bolt in) half cage. Its going in my Xsara Vts track car build. Is the gaps correct going off the pic? Or should it be tight on the roof and the pillars. Was cheap enough that if it didn't fit I could sell on. But I'm thinking there is enough room on top above the seats. But it needs plates welded in the floor to mount it. ][/url]

Can't see a half cage for the Xsara, only full cage which at £500+ is a bit much on my budget ATM. I'm running bucket seats and harnesses so I'm wanting something that would save my head if it came to it. I know seems daft skimping on safety but its only abtrack car and not for racing.

Got to workout how I can sort a roll cage out without sacrificing my head. Or redoing this one. I can weld, but not good enough to make a cage up Sad

It didn't cost me much, I'm assuming that the gaps on the sides wouldn't be safe. But on the roof it looks higher than the seats.

Here's a full safety devices cage recently welded in a 306. Very snug fit.

Anyone had one off customcages.co.uk as they have a clubman half cage for less than half the price of an Omp cage?
£254 for a clubman cage ain't bad, which ain't bad for a budget track car. Anyone had any experience with them? Cheers

Why not save a little longer and go for a multi point weld in cage?
I know they arent cheap but mine stiffened up the chassis loads which made the car feel much nicer afterwards. It's worth the extra money for the stiffening alone, not to mention the added safety factor. Smile

I have been tempted to buy a 6 point cage, nearly bought a Xsara that had one welded in off eBay few months ago, but missed out.

It might be worth sending phillipm on here a PM, he did my cage and did a top job on it, he will custom make it to your specs. Smile

It was definately custom.

I'm not sure whether it was custom for another car, or if it wasn't actually a cage but a custom climbing frame for a park, but it was custom.

He's pretty busy, been asking him for a lower stut brace for a while 😁 he isn't far so might ask him, priced up some tubing as was considering having a go myself but getting someone else to do the welding. I don't feel confident enough with mine. Got a tube 2" bender. Just getting the angles right.

Do you have a tube bender, or one of those hydraulic pipe benders/crushers ?(tube and pipe aren't the same thing).

Because if it's the latter, it's not going to work on roll cage tube, you'll have to pack the whole pipe with sand just to have a chance of getting it to work right.

Old school pipe bender. Was my late dads, he used it to make sidecarcross frames. Seen CDS tubing online. Just getting the measurements right.
