Hey guys, new user/owner here. Unfortunately my first post isn't a happy one Sad

About a week ago problems started when a few gears felt stiffer than normal to engage. Seemed to happen out of the blue.

Sometimes it will shift fine as it has always done and sometimes the thing wont budge at all, having me resorting to turning the engine off to stick it in gear.
The clutch pedal has more than normal free movement at the top (started at the same time) and only engages at the very bottom of the pedal.

So i took it into a pug specialist for a quick look and they noted excessive movement at the clutch lever but couldn't give me a solid diagnosis. They suggested a cable replacement as the first thing to try, but suspected a deeper issue may be to blame.

Would appreciate some expert knowledge Smile

Cheers

Okay thanks guys, that's what I was hoping to hear. I went full on bandit and put a cable tie through the plastic piece that connects to the back of the pedal as a spacer which takes off a fair bit of the slack on the cable and it seems to help. So i guess that confirms it's a cable issue haha.

on a 1.9 d it wont matter, sachs do o.e stuff so its decent quality anyway.

i the cars have never had a clutch its likely to need one soon, even if its not slipping, fork bushes will be worn, shafts rusty, and clutch springs stiff.
