Hi guys, need a group hug I'm so pi55ed off with me car. Very long story short it's come back from the paint shop and it's 5hite! When i got the car it had been bumped in the o/s rear quarter (which i knew about) and repaired but the paint had reacted a bit. Being the person i am, i had to get this put right. So sent it to my 'mates' place, he then said it would be better to blow both sides in to colour match it - not being a 'paint man' i said fine you know better than me. To make it easier for them we even stripped the car , both bumpers off, side trim off, front and rear lights out, windscreen out all the window rubbers out. When it came back and it was shocking it looked like it had been rollered with a wet cat - it was that bad. Long story short i told him and he had it back to put it right. They basically colour sanded it all and to be fair it looks a lot better, but i asked for to be painted again and to get rid of the few dents and dings down the sides but it wasn't. They also made a bit of a mess of the front bumper, over spray on the black trim etc, they have only cleaned it and not put right the other issues. Bear in mind this has taken well over 6 months now, so the Rally is now out of tax, MOT and insurance - so basically it's cost me about £550 for these for the pleasure of about 3 small trips out in the car. So i have now thrown the car back in the garage until i can get me head back on I know there's now only one option - a bloody full respray. Sorry for the rant, i'm sure it will be ok in the end? ________________________________________ Bianca 306 Rallye.Mondeo Titanium X. |

Bad times mate... Have you paid them? If so I would try to get your money back and take it somewhere else, there's only so many times you can give a car to people who are evidently not bothered or qualified enough to do a job that's up to standard ________________________________________ Almost standard 1999 Bianca RallyeHilux InvincibleX daily 306 No.13 Carp and specialist Anglers Click here |

At the very least, put it in the garage until the red mist has gone away. Then have a good think with a non passion filled head on.Worst case, its only paint. As much as its f**ked you off right now (and I know how much it will have) it can be corrected. Grab your mate, go for a beer and have a pretty candid chat with him about where things go from here. I suspect it might have been done as a 'foreigner'.....might leave you in an awkward place..... Have the chat, go from there. Don't do anything rash. ________________________________________ Cherry Red Rallye .... On going OEM spec restoChina Blue GTi6 .... Weekend toy Black 208 GTi .... Wife's car now Silver BMW 550i.... Proper pain in the arse boys! To be honest, I really really can't be arsed to go through it all again plus the hassle of transporting it over there and back. They've done a couple of other small jobs that were fine. Re the payment, to be fair, as a mate he did only charge me the cost of the paint - so I can't really kick off about money. I have another chap over by me who a few of my trader mates use who is supposed to be the dogs, so i'll get him to come up to the house and hopefully quote me happy lol. Thanks for the hug boys xx________________________________________ Bianca 306 Rallye.Mondeo Titanium X. |

This is the joy of cars buddy. You get frustrated by them, can guarantee if you got rid you would only regret it again after! Best thing now is get it done fully once, and you shouldn't have to worry about it again then. Unfortunately it's not the point about the money bei lost it's the time. But that's life. Just make sure you enjoy the car after! ________________________________________ Astra burg #365 Garrett Power'99 bodied 6 track project |

I really wanted to go to PUGFEST this year in it as it stands now it looks like it's not going back on the road 'til next year, i'll just have to bite the bullet and get it done properly I guess. ________________________________________ Bianca 306 Rallye.Mondeo Titanium X. |

I've seen Adam's wrap and it looks really good. Well worth doing. But i get your pain. I'm the kinda person this happens to (funnily it's only with cars that things seem to go wrong) but once you're inside and driving down your favourite road with the windows down and tunes up...the paint issues will fade. And as the above have said....speak to your mate. Say you expected more and what he suggests to get it rectified. If he says he won't - don't let the car take the brunt of having a mate who won't see you right. ________________________________________ Turned 40 and in true cliched fashion buying one of the cars of my teenage dreams! |

Weird thing is I think you stop enjoying a car once you've had it resprayed and looking perfect ________________________________________ Old pugs don't die they just get faster |

Nah, mines on the original paint and is as near mint as it could be. No dents, no scratches. Just some stone chips on the bonnet. And mine gets hugely abused. I just don't put it in a hedge for oncoming traffic or take it anywhere it may get damaged by others. It's just used for playing in and going to work.________________________________________ See the sheer power and might of the lesser known burrowing owl. |

Not really a fan of wrapping tbh, although i have seen some VERY good jobs done but thanks for the thought. Lost faith in my 'mate' to be honest so i won't be going back there, since i picked the car up neither of us has been in touch with each other. No, think it's time to get my head out of my ass and just get on with it. Thanks for your input guys ________________________________________ Bianca 306 Rallye.Mondeo Titanium X. |

Perhaps just leave it in the garage SORN'd for a bit. Wait a month or two to clear your head of the paintjob, maybe get some other small bits done while you don't have the pressure of getting it back on the road. Then once you've saved up money again, get it done properly over the late autumn/early winter time, then reassemble it over winter and have an awesome car ready for spring time and show season.Saves insurance and tax over the winter when it wouldn't necessarily get driven too much possibly? ________________________________________ 61k miles Ph.1 Diablo '6 Project Thread |
