Not sure if you guys have heard about the changes coming up to the trackday tyre market. Essentially the EU is changing the law on what tyres are allowed on the road and want to remove tyres that have a high rolling resistance and aren't economically, mainly track tyres!

In racing they are creating a special list that will include these tyres so we can still use them for that but they will no longer be road legal. For those of you that do trackdays you'll want to get some other tyres for the road.

This might have already been covered or you all know already but wanted to check Smile

Remember reading about this a while ago, has it been sparked up again since I take it?
Always thought that's why toyo bought out the r888r to over come the changes!

I'm not sure on how it's going to work as you'll still be able to buy the tyres but I guess if you get caught with them on the road you could face fines or something.

R888R will be legal, haven't heard of any others. Kumho V70s won't and I'm fairly certain DZ03Gs won't.

I imagine they'll have to print 'not for highway use' on the new ones. Legislation is abit weird with tyres and coppers generally haven't got a clue anyway!

The tyres won't be e marked or marked with the standard eu tyre chart (fuel efficiency, wet grip etc)

Right just spoke to Mr Tyre who know there stuff & supply lots of the Teams etc .

After Nov 2014 any tyre made not just Track tyres have to conform to lots of testing ..wet grip ..dry grip ...noise ...etc !
Where all the track tyres are coming undone is Noise ...
All the top end tyres are only meeting F grade & they need to be G to pass .!

Everybody has stocked up on old tyres made before 2014 as that's ok ...
But the EU has given Track tyres until end of 2016 to get rid of old stock ..

Now here's some info ..
No tyre including new Toyo R888R that's the first top end tyre to meet the Regs are anywhere near as good as the old tyres YET ????
Dunlop & others are working on tyres & trying to give DZ03g quality but because of Noise it's going to be difficult so say ?
They are basically lined slicks ...

Hopefully this info is of use ...
It's what I've been told from Motorsport Division & it's not My Knowledge ....

I'm sure at some stage they will stop you using even old tyres for road ?

Day, that's pretty much my understanding as well. Easiest way around it is to have a set of wheels to get you to the circuit and a set with track tyres on it

Mei ...Old Tyres as in made before EU ruling Nov 2014....
I'm more than happy to keep using tyres to drive to Combe that are 1-2 years old & unused Thumbs up

Like Dan said two sets of wheels which I have may be the Answer ?....it just means I've got to carry a set of wheels which can be a pain LOL

They're pretty good for the price! But yea, I imagine you'll be fine with RSRs. All existing tyres are ok, only a problem when you buy new.

They are E marked. The replacement for the old AD08. Much improved carcass and overall performance. Awesome things.

Sorry Day but that's not true. So far all new versions we've come across are better including the 888R, deffo the 48R and the Cup2

You say they are improved performance (the AD08R), but the saloon racers at combe hate them, and much prefer the original for some reason.

Thought mine were awesome.

I have to be honest....i totally disagree...

I've done 2 trackdays, both a mixture of dry and wet and for the money (£60 a corner in 16's) they are utterly brilliant...sure they're not the same standard as say a 888R, but then i could by 2 sets for the same price and i'm no professional racing driver

Completely agree. No one is saying they're as good as 888s or DZ03Gs etc. but they're a damn site cheaper and if you're not a great driver/are learning it's less of an issue if you kill them on track.

I'm glad you're enjoying them Chris. They're good enough for what you need Smile
