HELP!!!

I have done a search but haven't found something happening like mine.

My car was sat for around 18 months. Sent it to my mechanic to get it back on the road.

All was fine but it seems to have started to cut out for no reason it can happen at idle or on the move (say around 30MPH). My mechanic did an ECU reset this morning and again it cut out at around 30MPH by all accounts on this occasion it revved high then cut out. When ever it cuts out into neutral and it'll restart by all accounts. Sometimes it'll be just be once or it'll cut out a few times straight after the other.

Please please help any ideas as to why this would be happening?

I'd say that almost definitely the idle control valve yes. But, bear in mind that cleaning won't always cure the problem. It may simply need a brand new one. Which may well be cheaper to do anyway rather than clean it, it's not any better and then chucking cash at other things.

Try this one fella brought mine from here back in feb fixed all simular issues including stalling make sure you reset correctly resetting via battery disconnection will usually work however best to have the ecu plugged in and codes reset if it does not cure immediately

Best not to use cheep versions as they can cause additional problems

halfrauds sell this part for 120 bucks marelli is the original

Thanks mocinim, the engine is actually in my 309 Goodwood hence why I asked about part numbers.
My chassis number won't match the engine. Re lamba I bought one a few years back had to hunt for one with a longer cable as the standard one wasn't long enough. So if that's the problem I've got some hunting to do again.

Thanks everyone I'll keep you posted as I've just found out it's already been cleaned so off buying I go.

Well I'm back, all changed earlier today and it's still cutting out. By all accounts it just stops randomly.

I know the guy working on it wants to try and get a dyagnostics on it but the one he has can't be used for older cars.

Any other ideas? Again any help greatly appreciated.

Anybody know what this relay is for? By all accounts it's getting really hot and when it gets disconnected the engine will turn over but not start. I'll post another pic of if as I can only post one pic, not sure if it's relevant to my problem but it's a question I've been asked so I'm asking the experts. Thanks

looks like the relay has a chunk missing out of the casing, so worth sticking a new one of those on especially if it gets very hot.

So it looks like I've still got the problem. Could it be the ECU? Remember car was sat for 18 months or so.

The mechanic working on it I'm sure he has, but he's no expert on the Gti-6 engine.
Couldn't get anything to read the car to find a fault.

I only ask as if it could be the problem I have a standalone ecu with throttle biddies waiting to go on and it could be the push I need to get it done.

Just want my pug back so I can Smile Smile Smileagain
