Hi all,

Having some problems with the '6 recently. Battery is only a few months old. I've charged it with a charger and then put it in the car. Worked fine for 5 days or so and then on the last day, each time I start it I hear it struggling more and more for 3 or 4 starts until it barely turns over, like a flat battery. Sometimes this magically cures itself and seems to just charge all of a sudden, regardless of distance traveled.

For example, left work on Friday and it sounded as though it was starting to struggle, 5 miles home and then went out later that evening, 3 miles struggling more so, 5 miles struggling even more and then won't start, so I jump it. Drive 0.5 miles home and then I manage to start it fine 3 consecutive times on my driveway, jumping into life as if nothing is wrong.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I had this a few years ago. It was the live stud on the starter had broken inside the solenoid so it looked fine.
One min is was making a good connection, next min it moved and wouldnt let the current from the alt back to the battery resulting in lots of flat battery issues.

Or bad earths as chris said.
Possibly the battery is s**t if its been left flat for a while.

Will give the earth's a check. It starts 100% reliably if I'm jumping it. Also, what does the red battery light mean on the dash? It never comes on when driving but on ignition sometimes it is much brighter than other times. I think once it was completely extinguished but it still started fine!

Check your battery connections
Put a jump lead between the battery earth terminal and the engine to check earth

Look for an air leak between head and throttle butterfly

Ok I've checked the earths and battery connections, all tight and clean. Can't see any air leak either.

Started fine the last 3 or 4 starts but this morning it's bad as ever. Along with the revving in the above video, the fuelling is very rough. Coming on / off the throttle nearly snaps my neck in half. There's also a bit of a lag coming off the throttle where it'll continue to accelerate for a second or two.

I think the slow starting and this are linked as it runs beautifully when it starts well. Some sort of sensor issue?

Thanks

This ended up being a faulty battery! Bit odd for a new battery to die. Got it replaced under warranty and now all is well.
