Guys,

Tomorrow I'm gonna be putting the new bearings into the beam and the shafts into the trailing arms.

Have a question about these little flange bits that go on the shafts.

Do you put them on first, or press the shaft in then add them? Is there a specific position in relation to the trailing arm, I.e. distance etc?

press the shaft in to a 2mm clearance, then fit the cup bit against the arm.

Cheers Mei.....assume its just a tap on jobbie?? Seems pretty tight on the shaft..

And by 2mm, I assume you mean 2mm inset from being flush on the other side of the arm, I.e. the direction you are pressing it?

Yep, 2mm inset from the outside of the arm. I usually use a piece of pipe that slides over the pivot tube to tap the cup on so it goes on even, they can be tight sometimes.

Thanks all very much for the help so far.

One last question. Do these collars go tight up against the brackets on the beam tube?

on 306/xsara beams, that sleeve is the other way up (lip to outside edge)

205/309 different for some reason

good luck with rest of your build

Thanks Andy, not far off now...

Just so I'm sure, the sleeves, inset 2mm from A or sitting 2mm above B (which would be the end of the beam tube?

Is there any particular reason this part isn't tapped flush upto the mount casting as i can't see any logical reason for it if the seal's fitted correctly in the other end & the gap clearance is set why would Peugeot make a part that's too short ? Roll eyes

I had the same question when I rebuilt my beam and there was no answer to it. I guess you end up having the wheels 2 mm nearer to the inner wheel arch. I tapped them on flush on mine because when I had it at a 2 mm gap it didn't sit square to the beam tube and I worried that I could damage the sleeves by pulling them back off. Beam is good so far (since 2017 and 50k-60k kilometers). Once I had a creak again and I worried that could be the reason but it was a metal bracket of the hand brake cable rubbing against something when going over speed bumps. However I would also like the pros to comment on this.

It was done for a reason, and this is why I set my refubed axles as they would come from factory

Is there a special way you ensure the sleeves sit square?

So you're not aware of the reason it's doneRoll eyes as i don't see any reason why the sleeve's not tapped all the way down flush with the beam mount as this part just holds the seal in place which would be pressed inside the sleeve & butted upto the tube end then the correct clearance gap set between the seal lip & trailing arm

I have a tool in my dealer kit that sets how deep the aleeve sits, the more critical dimension is how much of the o.d of the seal is in the sleeve.

If it's a genuine part & tube then it will be a perfect interference fit so would go on the tube squarely even if a 2mm gap was left but i've seen numerous beams with this part fitted flush & even the 'Pros' cant give any logical explanation as to why it's this way Crazy

If the seal sits flush against the end of the tube then wouldn't how far you tap the sleeve on determine how much of the seal is inside the sleeve Roll eyes surely Peugeot would make this part so it's the correct depth to tap flush with the beam mount then when the seal's installed & tapped in it sits flush with the chamfered end of the sleeve just leaving the lip to act as the watertight seal?
