I have just bought a completely standard Gti6 with 84000 miles (seem to be legitimate miles) I am thinking about spending some money rebuilding the engine and wondered if anyone can recommend the best 306 specialist in the UK to aid in this, possibly even carry out the work if it won't be too expensive. also the gear box is a bit whiney, so might just bite the bullet with that and the clutch. where is the best place to get a reconditioned gear box with mine as a part ex?thanks for your help in advance |

if its only got 8400 geniune miles on it, i wouldn't bother with a re build personally at this moment in time. i've had 4-5 engines in various gti6's all with 130k+ on the clock and they go better than the low mileage (75k ish) that's currently in my road 6my road 6 has got a crunchy 3rd gear as well. i have know the car history over the last 12 years and it had the crunch back then as well. it has been hammered since and the crunch has got no worse |

Welcome to the club! As said, there isn't really much point in rebuilding yours just yet - it does appear that the higher milers seem to be 'looser' and pull very well. If you want to go ahead with this, seeing as you're in Scotland you could try Ecosse. However, be warned they are expensive. You may be able to get a deal on a gearbox from them though. There is a whine coming from the engine/ gearbox, not sure what it could be to be honest. Im not a mechanic my skills and experience is limited to replacing parts i.e. brakes and exhaust. never really been in a position of diagnosing a fault. was hoping to take it to a specialist for a full check over to see if there are any problems with the car at all. |

In my experience a whine from the gearbox is cured by an oil service. As others have said don't worry about a rebuild, loads are on double that mileage and still going strong. ________________________________________ Ryan |

Had mine rebuilt in jan by pug1off attention to detail with putting back loom and other bits wasn't great but with regards to the engine went in at 152k miles was abit noisy all round smokey etc came out very sweet pulls like a train quiet and smooth not a bad job after care was also goodif you get a rebuild remember to run it in slowly treat it like its had a transplant will need at least 500miles to seat before you open it up But as the others have said it is pricey ________________________________________ BLACK RALLYE - phoenixWHITE RALLYE - valliant http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history |

Really dont get this notion you see these days of 'oh my car has covered 70k miles, it must need a rebuild'?!My bosses were talking the other week, one says to the other 'when should you replace your car', she replies 'oh after about 5 years I guess'. I'm sitting there thinking what the f**k?! Run a car for as long as it lasts, if its a good design and is serviced regularly they should run for big miles. I got my GTI6 on 60k and in three years put over 100k on it, it got rear ended on 166k and was still eating up the miles. Very healthy engine that loved to be ragged. If it aint broke, i wouldnt fix it. Not worth it! ________________________________________ ''Oh, it does handle like a golf!'' Why drive a Golf....when you can drive a GTi-6? |

First problem with these engine's is bore wear, so it's either oversize and new pistons etc or sleeve the bore back to 86mm, But as we know each engine is different, I'm sure I hold the record of 285,000 before the HG failed and that engine went and performed better than most with 3/4 of the mileage on themBox's should last at least 150k, unless someone's used the wrong oil ________________________________________ 306 Rallye Sptint/Race Car, 205 CTI 1.9 8v to name a fewRoad, Track and Race/Rally car preparation to your personal requirements, Full Workshop & Diagnostic Facilities New and Second parts, from Plugs to Turbo's We now also carry out Routine Servicing www.pugracing.com & FB Page, https://www.facebook.com/PugRacing Ebay; http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Pug-Racing-Shop 2012/2013/2014/2019 Class Winners at Gurston Down Speed Hillclimb & Joint overall, Class record too along the way, |
