Only way I can describe it is power then nothing then power again
Does it mainly in 2nd and 3rd
I'm wondering if the fuel pump is struggling to pickup below this.
Any ideas?

Will be fuel starvation, phase 1 tanks are not baffled like 2/3s, either fit a phase 2/3 tank or fit a swirl pot and uprated pump |

Could this be something to do with it? Or is it defiantly the non baffled tank? ________________________________________ 1997 P1 Gti 6 Charged |

ph1 fuel pumps and poss the tank are different.Farmer used to have a lb ph1 and he bought my ph2 pump and tank as he had starvation issues. Think even standard ph1s get fuel starvation. Get a swirl pot fitted or get a used ph2 tank and pump. ________________________________________ ***Breaking*** Ph3 Silver GTI 6 High Boost |

I'll get a swirl pot as I cba changing the tank. I'll just mount it where the spare used to be. Any pointers on what to go for and what pump to use?________________________________________ 1997 P1 Gti 6 Charged |

Pretty sure you could retain the standard pump with a swirl pot seeing as its not pressure thats the problem. You would need a rich w jobbie to mount under to boot floor but join the fing que as i need one to ________________________________________ ***Breaking*** Ph3 Silver GTI 6 High Boost |

Get the swirl pot from rich w and a 044 pump, rich could probably get you a deal on the pump too |

I would imagine you would need another pump after the swirl pot! The fuel will take the easiest route with the least resistance so would just return to the tank from the pot plus you wouldn't get the pressure to the regulator |

In all seriousness changing the tank is a much easier option and cheaper! ________________________________________ Black power baby! You don't need to drop the beam to change the tank! Wiring would be the issue, phase one has a separate pump and sender unit and phase 2/3 are one unit so the wiring for that would need changing!I personally would go down the swirl pot route, that way it's already fitted for when you go high boost |

As pughaven says.I think it's 4 bolts to remove the tank. Need to disconnect the handbrake cables first as they are (on a Ph2 anyway) held by the tank straps.... Just disconnect the three fuel lines and the elbow from the filler, do the 4 bolts and out it comes. Just be careful undoing the nuts. The nuts and studs on mine were crusty as you like. Managed to shear one stud and I was even being heavy handed... ________________________________________ Cherry Red Rallye .... On going OEM spec restoChina Blue GTi6 .... Yup that's pretty much it. I'd just take the wiring plug from a phase 2/3 as well I presume it's only live and earth for the pump and input and output for sender.... 4 wires isn't difficult to solder. But yes if you are ever going to think about high boost you could do the swirl pot. But it's quite expensive... Rich W ones are £175 plus a Bosch O44 plus all the extra pipework clips mounting brackets etc etc it soon adds up to a good few hundred quid. Or a cheap tank 4 rusty bolts a filler neck to remove and a few wires and clip on pipes. ________________________________________ Black power baby! The issue is he's put a Walbro in place of the standard pump - the way the pickup is designed on the Walbro pumps mean you get this starvation issue. As others have said, get a swirl pot and Bosch 044, or change the tank and fit a known good OEM pump. ________________________________________ Contact Details:rich@lynxpowerengineering.co.uk 07732 822546 |
