This only works if the fuel pump is wired to the ecu though, mine are both wired to seperate switches and not to the ecu and the pumps just runs continuously regardless of whether the ignition is on or not, just the kill switch needs to be on.

If you've tried it wiring the 044 pump direct to the battery I can't see how the ecu would detect any sort of spike, it wouldn't even know the pump is running...?

ecu wont be detecting any specific spike, but if the alternator isnt working and the load is high enough from the pump it might cut the ecu voltage too low.

Can you really believe that a fully charged race battery that's got enough juice to start an engine can't run 2 fuel pumps though? My mate raced his Clio for a 20 minute race without an alternator! Maybe try making sure the swirl pot is full, disconnect the in tank pump then run the 044 and see if it starts then? Would reduce the load a bit...

its a low compression engine, so wont take much to spin over.

To rule out power being an issue just stick a set of jump leads on it off another car.

It can't be fuel pressure related the way you are saying it dies IMO, has to be power or something wired wrong IMO
