Ok so a couple of weeks ago i noticed the car was sounding like a scooby. Seemed to drive ok so i put it down to the manifold fire ring blowing.
so changed that and its still doing it. Cleaned up the lambda, still doing it.

seems to do it between 1k -3k more so when under load.
Thought it was an exhaust blow so today i had the exhaust off, fully cleaned joints. Inspected manifold from underneath for cracks etc. No blows found anywhere over the whole system. Didnt take the manifold off but there is no signs of soot on it. Re fitted the exhaust with new gaskets and paste. Still doing it.

Took out the 3 month old plugs, cleaned them up. Replaced all coil packs. Still doing it.

What the hell could it be?

possibly lambda making it run rough rather than a exhaust blow, does sound like its running on 3 but still pulls as it should. Engine ticks over fine.
sticky valve, lambda, tps?

Could it be the battery is disconnected all week and only gets connected at weekeds when its used.

Its driving me nuts as the car sound like a bag of s**t in low revs but seems to be driving fine.

any ideas?

Any loss of power? No strange noises when driving it or rough acceleration? Is it literally just idling its rough?

Seems to idle fine. Runs a little lumpy 1k-3k but still pulls well.
Sounds like its running on 3 cylinders between 1-3k.

had it ticking over and removed one coil pack plug at a time, then it definitely sounded like s**t.

All plugged back in, ticking over fine but as soon as its reved or pull way, sounds like a scooby until 3k then seems fine.

Remind me, do these still run a standard map sensor? And is it pre or post charger?

It can do but I'm not sure it would do this.
Thinking about it, it has to be pre charger as the standard map can't read boost and the ecu is fooled into working with the boost on these kits.

When my map sensor was on the blink I only used to get a slight hesitation when driveing it hard apart from that it was fine

What coils did you replace them with? Misfire could be anything from coil to plug to compression or fueling problem.

If you fancy the trip down I can code read it for you if you need. Had my old diablo 6 hesitating like mad a d running like a sack of s**te at times turned out to be the lambda.

When it's doing it turn off unplug the lambda and go for a drive see what it does. Will revert to a basic safe setting.

Check air temp sensor bud and the wiring to the tps ?

Also check your battery connections ? I had a corroded positive terminal and cracked earth lead that caused massive problems

Battery terminals are a couple of months old and tight.

Just put new plugs in and still no change.

Compression test and manifold off next me thinks.

I think sadly you may have damaged a ring? As a result it runs badly under small load because it's not under boost but then when you've boost going through it it's less noticeable. Sad

Would a compression test tell me if that's the case?

Yes mate only reason I say is that I had an ring fail at high speed on the motorway and it sounded fine at high revs just when I dropped down revs/speed it sounded exactly like you said scooby off beat. Compression test would tell you instantly Sad

Have you put it on diagnostics and checked all the live running data from sensors / coils / injectors?

And we have a winner.

Congratulations Ross. You win a slightly used piston ring.

Comp test revealed cylinder one on 110psi. The other 3 on 220 psi.

Got a camera in there to find lots of bore scratches Sad

New engine time.
