Thoughts on the standard air box? I have never had a 6/rallye with a standard air box and filter so dont know what to make of it but are they worth changing or keeping?

There was a K&N filter on mine when I got it, and I changed it for a standard one. Hard to tell a difference power-wise but seems to be smoother running with standard air box, but maybe revved a little better with the K&N. I changed it because I don't like filters low down near the road - standard intake gets cleaner air. And a naked K&N down there will be sucking all sorts of rubbish into the engine. The K&Ns depend on the filter oil for filtration.

Agree with this:

Regarding the heat shield, I'd find a second hand one or cut a new one out of ally sheet.

Good work, nice to see another one being saved.

Yes mei thats him. Got the engine back in, pulled the head off today and checked it with a straight edge and and all seemed good put a new head gasket on, just went for a fibre fai one as was easy and saved waiting to get a mls one. New head bolts and water pump gone on so just hope its all ok. Dark now but got my light out to get the shafts and exhaust back on and hopefully get the front end on too

Well thats the car all back together, cars only running on 3 cylinders, has a f**ked coil pack so need to hunt out my box of spares and replace that. Fitted a nissens rad to replace the crappy black steel one and fitted my pro race 3s and 2 of the cyclones have punctures. Just about ready to go for its MOT now.
