Does anyone know the correct length to set dummy shocks too in order to set a rear beam at -20mm please?

I could really do with some help on this, I've fitted a Xsara VTS beam and I'm struggling to get the ride where I want it. I've made a pair of adjustable shocks and would love the length for std height -20mm & 30mm.

Cheers Jord, I tried doing it just by moving the trailing arms around the splines and it seemed to go from sky high to too low with no middle ground!

thats because its the wrong way to do it, you pull the bar out, set the arm wherever you want it then pop the bar in wherever it'll slide in without force, you will need to rotate the bar till you find that set of splines as there's differing numbers each end.

Hi Mei, I have a query.

In the FAQ it states "every 3mm change in ride height is a 2mm difference in shock bolt centres". States that the standard is 330mm dummy shock centres too.

That equates to 1.5mm ride height per 1mm shock centres on standard beam. I read that as a 20mm drop would be ~13mm shock centres reduction, aka 317mm centres.

Above, aiming for 20mm drop on 20mm bars you suggested 322mm dummy shock, a change in shock length of 8mm. That would be 2.5mm ride height per mm of shock length?

Is the difference because the FAQ was adapted from ZX? Should I trust the figures in this thread

On 21mm bars, not sure what Jord was aiming at heightwise as he asked for two heights in the preceding post. 318mm shock centres would be circa 20mm drop? or 30mm? Reason being I will be using 21mm bars and want about a 30mm drop. What do you reckon? Mine is on stilts at the moment at the rear and want a sensible height with no interior... Should I maybe go further?

Incidentally I recall that I couldn't get the beam mount bolts out on the beam I took apart due to fouling the arm, I suspect because it was lowered. Is it possible to turn the bolts around on the lowered beams to aid future beam mount swaps?

Edit:Tidied up,didn't even make sense to me. Laugh.

Cheers gentlemen! I shall repeat that then. Smile

Is it possible to run the beam mount bolts the other way or do the arms not interfere with bolt extraction? I recall not being able to get them out on the beam i took apart.

It is because the axle is lowered that you can't get bolts out.

The easiest way is to do the job is removing torsion bars and letting arm drop enough to take out. BUT it would be far easier to drop the axle and do everything properly.

Personally, Peugeot fitted them bolts that way around for a reason. I have seen one axle in my lifetime with bolts opposite way around, and there was a nice gouge (so) where the nyloc had fouled the arm

No worries. Beam is fully apart anyway, had new shafts pressed in and just need to put the bearings in. Nice one chaps.
