Are there any guides or anyone have a recommendation as to how to do the refurb? Doesn't look to complicated to change the seals etc.

I noticed the seals around the pistons of my Brembos are looking a bit tired so I was going to get a refurb kit from Bigg Red and do both calipers. Are there any guides or anyone have a recommendation as to how to do the refurb? Doesn't look to complicated to change the seals etc. ________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

if you're painting them just make sure they are properly stripped down, keep piston surfaces free from paint, use plenty of brake cleaner etc, not really much to do other than be careful________________________________________ 306 rallye reproduction decals (full sets/individual decals) | 306 b-pillar textured vinyl weatherstrips306 slam panel esso stickers | 306 yellow / orange / pension fund red side door badges gti6 inlet manifold badges | 306 rear boot badges (p2/p3) winner of Extraction of toys from prams with outstanding vigour award 2009 [source: gti6 owners club] |

When i did my calipers i cleaned them up to bare metal, cleaned any fluid off with brake cleaner then masked the inner faces where the pistons are, where the pads sit and where the brake line banjo would sit with masking tape. Then took them down to the local powder coaters, had them coated. When i got them back i got the old pistons out with an air line but most were knackered so replaced all 8, made sure they were clean inside before smearing the seals with rubber grease and fitting the new pistons. Make sure you don't scratch the pistons when fitting (or removing if you're re-using the old ones). The rubber grease i used was from ebay, about £4 for a small tub iirc. I also fitted new bleed nipples whilst i was at it, but was too tight to pay for new link bars that allows the fluid to go between each side of the calipers. There's not much to it, i found the hardest part was removing the old pistons without scratching them, when i noticed most were pitted or not upto my standards i used some stilsons to grab them as that made life a bit easier. My calipers are AP racing ones but that shouldnt make any difference. I may have some old photos of doing it if you want me to try and find them? ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |

If you have photos, that would be great. Reading some other forums online, they're a bit of a pain to do. Unfortunately the seals are quite perished so would like to get them done before the new season.________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

I did a semi refurb on mine lol. Seals and pistons had been done recently so they were removed, callipers cleaned up and painted, new nipples which cost me about £4 for 4 and new link bars which were £7. Only issue is i bought the wrong link bars and bought them for the Focus RS brembos so were too long but a local place shortened them for free so not too bad. All i can advise is don't paint them bright yellow. They look fantastic....for about 5 minutes then get bloody filthy lol |

After initial cleaning up.After painting. New pistons and seals in. Done. One thing i did learn is don't put your fingers inside to try and hold the pistons that move more freely in order to try and get the stiffer ones to come out, they come out with quite some speed with an airline! ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |

When using the air line to get the pistons out, did you just take the banjo off and put the air gun there?________________________________________ Rallye Race Car |

Yeah, that was the biggest problem as I had to bodge a bit of ruber hose to go over the end of the air gun and try to get a half decent seal in the threaded hole where the banjo bolt would go.________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |
