I've taken the dash out of the car but not sure how to remove the metal support that is behind it and on top of the steering column? There is a piece of sound deadening behind it I want to remove.

Undo the 3 bolts in the engine bay, 2 under the scuttle panel and 1 half way down where the brake lines run, once you have undone them you have 4 17mm nuts holding the metal steating column bracket, iirc the two top ones and the lower inboard ones are left handed threads and the one by the accelerator pedal is right hand thread and so is the bolt going through the 17mm nut

Cheers Ollie, hadn't thought about left handed threads.

You can just tear the soundproofing out though, it just covers the brake master cylinder nuts

I managed to pull 99% of that pit without taking it off. Bit fiddly tho.
