Russ,

The bump stops are easy. The actual rubber bits just twist/pull out of the cups. Under that, there is a bolt that holds the cup to the chassis. Rust gets up behind the bump stop and rusts up the bolt. One of mine came out no issues, the other sheared.

The deox gel is ok. Leave it on any longer than about 18 hours and it's a complete f**ker to get off as it just dries out. I used a bowl of hot water and a cloth. Bought it off fine as long as it handnt been on too long

Haven't done much at all this week. Been working some odd hours.

I did get a test coat of the Epoxy Mastic on, on the underside of the boot floor. Not hugely impressed with the brushed finish to be honest. I'd even flatter off the primer. Might see if the local spray place can spray the rest of it on....having said that, it's likely it's getting covered in a flat finish stone chip afterwards before top coat so perhaps painting it will be ok?

I brushed the Electrox on and got similar brush marks. But after satin black and a layer of clear wax the brush marks are not noticeable.

To be honest Mik, I think the mix of Mastic and hardener was a bit off which didn't help.

Onece its had a coat of 3M Body Guard flat stone chip as well, in don't think you bare going to know....!

I've done diddly squat this week.

Back on a 2-10 shift so nothing at night. Mornings have been so cold wet and blowly, I've stayed in bed for a while.....

Had some of the 3M flat stone chip arrive though as I bought a can to test....

Something to play with over the Easter weekend....

Had a quick play with the 3M Stone chip spray before I went to work today on a piece of scrap box section I've got.

Need to see what it's like once its dried later. Went on pretty well, is quite thin so have to be careful with runs eyc but the finish looks pretty good and I think it should cover any brush marks pretty well

So, despite the rain (it doesn't rain under a car...) I went out and did some more. Did another test with the stone chip. 3 slightly thicker coats, left 7 minutes between. That's drying now. Although it's dry to the touch, it's still not set underneath and moves when you touch it with your finger. I'll leave that overnight and see what it's like in the morning. I'm considering another test where I let each coat dry completely before adding the next. Not sure how that will go.......can only try.

Mixed up another batch of mastic. As before, mastic and hardener, although a little less hardener this time. Added approx 10% Xylene to thin it down. Seemed to have worked much better this time. Still some brush stroke marks but less pronounced than before and I certainly got it to flow into the chassis seams, down the brush, my arm, drip onto my face.......Big grin it's a **** to get off skin too!!! Discovered that it's best to make up a batch that will last you 30 mins tops. Any more, and it seems the mastic begins to go off in whatever tub/pot etc you've mixed it up in. To be expected I guess, most two part things I've used before have a work time limit...it becomes less easy to brush when it starts. Given the option, I think it would be far better to have this stuff sprayed on. Unfortunately, that wasn't an option for me...

Anyways, I got quite a lot done. The underside from the very rear, all the way to the other end of where the fuel tank sits is done. I've started on the large flat underside of the chassis too. Perhaps 50% complete in terms of mastic now. Have secured the use of an A frame so hopefully at some point next week, it will be dragged off to Carls have the sill looked at. I think then I'll take it back to my mates unit and get it on his lift to finish the paint, seam sealant and stone chip. Be far easier than crawling around on my drive......

So, pictures. Only a couple, of not much, but you get the idea...

Stone chip test 2:

Mastic'd bits of chassis:

Not got any pics of it yet but there appear to be a couple of bits where I don't seem to have cleaned the deox gel off properly and it's reacted with the primer. Will have to run those down, clean with thinners and try again.

Well, it seems like I got the method right on the 3M stone chip......checked it again this afternoon. Tough as old boots. Couldnt even mark it with a finger nail. Took a key to it....still hardly made a dent and I didnt hold back......

So rather happy with that. Think that will form a fine barrier over the top of the zinc primer and mastic. Chassis should be very very well protected once done. Less happy with the fact I've put my back out good and proper today.....not happy although it doesn't hurt lying down!!!

I am rather happy with how this is turning out.....got busy with the stone chip this acternoon

Covered up all the brush marks in the mastic and has left a very very nice flat finish for paint. This is definitely the way I'm going to go. No real issues with spraying upwards either. Can will occasionally spit when you stop and restart but it just melts into the stuff you've already sprayed......

Yep. Whole underside will be being sprayed cherry red. Not sure if I'm going with direct 2k gloss yet or 2/3 coats of base and then clear coat.....

Don't think cherry had clear coat as standard so maybe just go with direct 2k gloss. Id imagine you wont be getting under the car and polishing the paintwork once dry Unsure LOL

As std, no it didnt. Half the reason Rallye's go pink.....

Base and clear should moffer better protection than direct gloss. Think I'll be going that way

They do have a clear coat, that's the reason you can't polish the pink back to red.

Gwyn, thanks.

Yeah, colour would be nice but is a little way off yet. I need to get the will section sorted first so likely to be a bit of a delay for a bit now...

Done very very little to the Rallye of late. Long story (which isn't over yet) but I've just lost my enthusiasm for pretty much everything right now. Strange how quickly things can change. Today I forced myself to do a little. Took the bump stop cups to a chum who has a blaster. Got them cleaned right up for me and I chucked a little primer down.

Did think about filling the imperfections with a skim of filler...... Might yet do. Job worth doing etc......

That right Mei?

Service box lists them as two different parts, the cup and the stop, with the bolt a 3rd part
