I don't have PAS in the race car but still have the ram attached so I want to remove it as it seems a bit pointless and should make the steering a little lighter.

IIRC the ram reduces the right steering lock to prevent the tyres from rubbing on the gearbox? If I wasn't to make up a collar to stop the lock then there should be no issues apart from the rubbing which wouldn't be a problem as I'm barely anywhere close to full lock anyway.
