That graph looks a bit like the cam timing is retarded, but I'm probably wrong...

Edit: well the higher power graph sort of does. Bit strange tbh

I'm curious as to what would cause the first dip there on the graph...? I'm sure I've seen something similar before. Can't remember where tho.

Surely there would be a reason for an early dip there...?

Well all the cam timing is being adjusted during mapping on Monday. I've been up to see the guy mapping the car today and he thinks it's a cam adjustment that needed so we will see, plus a few adjustments on the trumpets to see what happens.

The engine doesn't feel that revy either so would a retarded cam cause this?

It looks similar to my btcc cammed engine which ran massive overlap. It was explained to me that its basically to do with the overlap of the cams, and at that point in the rev range the air flow is s**te, basically flowng in and out of the engine. Wayne managed to smooth it right out on my engine where numerous other mappers had failed. I thought it was because my engine had cams that ran a lot of overlap but possibly not as your cams shouldn't run much overlap. I'd check your cam timing.

Also, my first ever modified engine ran more or less the same spec with 285h's, 45's, omex ecu, ported head (although it was done by hiflowheads so was s**t) but standard bottom end. That made 199bhp. I wouldn't read too much into power figures in all honesty, just drive it and see if it feels fast!

I'm loosing the sock filters for sure mate. Mine are the solid lift piper 285 so are better than the hydraulic ones so hopefully the cam adjustments on Monday will sort it out. :-)

Bought a back plate and new filter set up today so that will be arriving tomorrow so the sock filters have gone.

Righh. So I've been of to the dyno again today and the only thing I actually hanged was removing the sock filters and fitted a back plate and sausage filter.

I arrived in the morning and got the car on the dyno and done an initial run to see where it was at. On this dyno it was reading a peak 193hp which is the same as the set up it had been left on form last Monday.

So we adjusted the exhaust cam which moved it in the right direction and moved onto the inlet cam which got us to 199hp.

We then moved on to some trumpet length adjustments which we got another 5hp from then ended up with a slight ignition timing adjustment which gave us a couple more to bring us to 206hp.

The car feels strong to me and I know it's no the figure I was looking for but I am happy with the way it drives for the summer so I'm just going to enjoy it.

Here is a pic of the first run and last run. Red lines are the hp, pink is first torque run and green is the last torque run.

The limiting factor we are thinking is the exhaust being a 205 Gti decat back system. As mentions before by some members. The torques does have a bit if a flat spot at 4k but overall I feel like we made a good increase through out.

Looks a nicer curve after that tune too which IMO is much more important than a peak figure.

Because you can get 285 for solid lifters as well as 285s for hydrolic !
285h I believe is the hydrolic profile

I reckon it's cams, which explains why the power is low in the rev range.

Piper 285 cams are not 285 degrees in duration, they are more equivalent to PT81's (264 degree duration), depending if you have the 285 or 285H.

If you're N/A you won't see any more out of it unless you move the peak power up the rev-range, as the volumetric efficiency of the engine won't permit much more at 6500 RPM.
