Hi folks. Bought a drivers door to replace the damaged one on the Rallye....

Door was from a GTI and I swapped the manual regulator over as well as the Rallye door loom and lock barrel. Now, central locking worked fine (using key as remote buggered!) before swap and now it doesn't!.

There is NO central locking when closing drivers door with key. When using key on locked passengers door to unlock, the soleniod modulates up and down a couple of times then stops in locked position. Sad

Now, I have plugged the door connector in properly and wiring would seem to be in good order. The only thing I didn't do was swap over the door latch mechanism from the original door.....I'm thinking this could be the culprit as there's nothing else different from the original door.

Not sure what phase of car the door came off but the side moulding was the thinner type (as was my original). The lock multiplug went on without issue but I'm wondering if there is an internal difference between them????

Anyone know????

thin rub strips is a phase3 thing, no idea if the actuators sre any different, but wiring issues in the body to door loom is very common

Problem solved!!

Changed the latch mechanism for the old one and central locking woks no problem....
Despite the mechanisms being the same dimensionally, the colour of the body is different.

Anyway...issue no more..

Hi Scott, just seen this thread (even though its one below mine lol). My central locking doesn't work on the drivers door and i think its the motor/actuator, one of the guys on here has a GTI6 unit, will this fit the Rallye door then Scott??

Could it have been a dodgy solenoid in the door you purchased?

Might be because it was from a GTi, I don't think Rallyes have dead locks so the units could be different.

Physically they looked the same other than colour of the plastic. The connector went on fine but its hard to say whether the module in the GTI door was electrically different or it was buggered!!. Guess I'll never know as it's probably in the local landfill by now!!
