hi guys, wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction for a more long term car.

Got about 6k to spend, will be a weekend car alongside my daily so running cost and maintenance aren't too much of a deciding factor.

Must be fun, rare/ sought after and hold its value well.

Two cars I'm looking at currently-

Ek9 lightweight in championship white with hondata ecu, exhaust and a induction. Fresh import, underseal, no rust 78k kilometres, Full history and great paint. Goes well, sounds lovely and feels raw.
Up for just under 6k

Other is an impreza Rb5 with prodrive performance pack, standard apart from Decat exhaust and sound system. Grey wheels, grey metallic paint as it left the factory. 76k miles, fsh, owned by a mate for last 5years.
Up for 5500.

What will hold its value better? I would do less than 2500miles a year in either cars.

What would you choose? Richard burns impreza prodrive or screaming vtec civic? Was looking at Jdm dc2 integra but preferred the way the ek9 handles and sounds.

I'd imagine they will both hold their money, wether they will appreciate in value I wouldn't like to guess.

I'm guessing you Don't fancy something old that will go up in value like a mint 205 or mk2 golf gti etc? As an investment I'd say they'd be better as prices are on the up.

Impreza is likely to cost you more if/when something goes wrong. I'd pick the Civic based on the fact it's a safer choice as you've mentioned the word investment.

The impreza is a good bet. Parts are cheap enough on them. Mine was reliable as ever. Just watch out for the piston slappy bottom end rattle. You'll love the torque on the scooby too. That dont get old.

But over the short space of time you'll keep it I doubt any car woild depreciate... LOL

Haha I am away so much this year with work that I won't even manage 2000miles a year in the new car. Got the daily so this would be pampered and only brought out on weekends.

Going to drive an ek9 and an rb5 on Saturday afternoon and see what feels more special.

So.. They guy with the rb5 doesn't want to sell it anymore after I offered him a decent sum Sad went to an importer and drove 3x ek9s back to back and.. Let down. For 5k I expected a lot more. So who knows, maybe a well sorted eg6 b16/b18..

Lol I'm sorry this really is too funny.

Mr new car everyday is looking for an investment purchase and actually thinks he can keep a car for long enough.
Mate youre going to loose money hard as you will buy it, restore it mod it, probably even put in a different engine there by making it un original and then you will sell it to someone who will pay the same price haha.

    Hilarious guy fairplay.

My DC5 turned out to be a good investment. Bought it for £7k last year and just sold it for £9k.

    At £6k I don't think you've got the budget for a nice one, but I'd have a look for a 98 spec JDM DC2.

Keep it standard and it should hold its money very well.

But seriously, unless you are good at buying and selling stuff at a mark-up (and classic cars seem to have gone up in asking prices at a stupid rate over the last few years) then I'd not look at cars as an "investment" - cars that you actually use or drive regularly are not investments very often, "money pit" is more an accurate term for anything performance related.

As said, buy something you really enjoy driving and hold onto it for a while.

A really nice example of a limited edition Ford will definitely be worth something in years to come. FRP or Puma Millennium Edition with those lush leather Recaros. All the more so as those Pumas do rust underneath worse than any 306.
