After 4 years of ownership I have decided to change to something a little different.

This place has been a good source of entertainment over the years but I've been on here less and less this year and once the 6 departs tomorrow I probably wont be back.

This is the new beast that arrives on Sunday...

C2s Tip. Decided after years of trying to put up with the clutch of a 6 in London I'd try the lazy approach Smile

Wicked. I really am considering a 996 at the moment. The 996 is getting really reasonable now, your 997 looks lovely.
I'd have a manual however I also don't live in London.

Honestly I'm not hugely worried. People only go online to complain and therefore skew the perception of cars. Its had some work done on the gearbox but I might also look around for a local indy who can do some pre-emptive work. I've read that replacing the IMS bearing with a new OEM one without a seal, frequent oil changes and a new lower temp thermostat should ensure safety.

I noticed that my driving is either through London, on motorways, or stuck in traffic in various situations. If I lived somewhere where the majority of my driving was some awesome roads then I would definitely have stuck with a manual box.

The 996s have probably hit their bottom line. 997s have definitely had the sting taken out too now. 996 turbos are looking really good investments and are fairly bulletproof. I only didn't go 996TT as I knew I'd lose my license in about 5 minutes. Portiacraft in N.London have a gorgeous looking blue 996TT cab for about £25k. low mileage as well. was seriously tempted

Personally I found the 996 interior just a bit too dated. Even coming from the 6.

I think the engine issues have been taken out of context and gone over the top. Yes they have issues but I don't think they are un reliable cars.

You could be put of buying a gti6 because of reading online and getting scared about all there problems, but in reality if well looked after pretty reliable

    smart motor that

i love the 996 turbo's myself, but the interior looks a bit dated i agree. the 997 is a nice shape, i love the guards red ones

if you take everything on the internet you read about cars seriously you'd never buy anything, just buy it and if something goes bang worry later, that's my motto LOL most of the people on the forums going on about potential problems have heard it off a mate in a pub who'd heard it off a guy who had a budgie that recalled the story from its previous owner, stories snowball into huge bulls**t

Its allegedly best practice to cane them everywhere the moment they are warm as well. Win/win

my insurance runs til Dec, to change from a 6 to this was an extra £250, with £0 voluntary excess and a compulsory of £250. win!

On moneysupermarket admiral were quoting me about £750 for the year.
