Tried another fuel/ignition relay, no difference.

However, I removed the inlet manifold for the 99th time to check injector cap locations and I noticed the brand new gasket has somehow got a huge hole in it on the cylinder that was banging and complaining:

Annoying that a brand new gasket has disintegrated like that...oh well. I just want the car to run now.

Also, my injector caps are all over the place because when I put them in I guess I didn't realise/forgot they could rotate independantly of the injectors:

If someone could tell me how the caps should be orientated that would be very much appreciated. Are they supposed to be horizontal (in this picture), or in line with the injectors at sort of 45ish degrees?

Thanks

My other thought is:
why would it hunt at idle if the cylinder with the huge hole had the coilpack unplugged?

Plus, I'm sure this hole has been created by me removing the inlet manifold about 10 times and this problem was there right after I changed everything over.

Got a new set of NGK plugs to stick in.

Problem found...the mating face of my inlet manifold was warped. :/
It runs a lot better with another manifold, but still has an air leak on one cylinder as the new gasket is now defective so have to wait for a 3rd new one.

Right, mating surfaces on another manifold and the head throughly cleaned, bolted down with new gasket, still leaking air, on exactly the same cylinder as it always does.

Literally all I did was remove the manifold, and put another back on, then found it was warped and put the original one back on. No work was done to the engine itself at all.

I really don't understand what is going on...
Need to give it to a garage/specialist.
